I have become my grandmothers care giver. She can no longer live on her own. Someone informed me to check about a care giver benefit for her? Is this such a thing?
V.V.
Thanks for your question, Natrina. We do not pay caregivers. However, you may be eligible to receive social services from the state in which you live. These services include free meals, housekeeping help, transportation, or help with other problems. You can get information about services in your area from your state or local social services office. You can also visit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services web page for more information. Thanks.

Hello, I have a question about the retirement and benefits of my spouse. I am ten years older than my husband and I would like to know if I could apply for the retirement and benefits of my spouse. I am 64 years old and I am turning 65 in March 9th. I do not have enough credits to apply for my own social security and I would like to know if it would be possible to apply for the retirement and benefits from my husband. Thank you and have a good day. I will be waiting for a reponse.
V.V.
Hi Silliana, thanks for using our blog. You may be eligible for spouse’s benefits if you are at least 62 years of age and your spouse is receiving retirement or disability benefits. Check out our Benefits For Your Spouse web page for additional details.

Because we were not obligated to take the RMD in 2020 my 2020 income is greatly reduced and I would not have to pay the IRMAA if the amount were recalculated now. Should I file an appeal (which form?), or do I just wait for the following year when the IRMAA will be calculated based on the lower income amount?
V.V.
Hi Margery, thanks for using our blog. To determine if you’ll pay higher premiums, Social Security uses the most recent federal tax return the IRS provides to us. If you must pay higher premiums, we use a sliding scale to make the adjustments, based on your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI). Your MAGI is your total adjusted gross income and tax-exempt interest income.
For details regarding an appeal, check out the factsheet: What You Can Do if You Think Your Medicare Income-Related Premium is Incorrect.
To report a Medicare Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount Life-Changing Event, complete and return the form to your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

I am a dual citizen of the US and Israel. Currently I live in Israel and I own a house in Florida my daughter lives in the Florida house. I would like to establish a social security account so I may enjoy all the online benefits. However, the current requirement is one must have a US address to qualify.
I will not use my Florida house as an address since I only live in there few weeks out of the year.
I think the requirement is unfair. There are so many Americans , like me , who live overseas and don’t maintain a US address, yet they will not be able to establish an account. Those people need the online services more than anyone , since they can not just walk up to the Social Security office in their city and do their business in person. Could someone examine this requirement and advise me. Thank you

Facebook has frequent ads that say seniors can collect an additional $144 per month rebate. Is this real?

my dad died in oct. of this year. I had his checks set up on direct deposit, all I want to know is what do I need to do other than send his death certificate to stop payment . I call every day and the number is either busy or just rings and rings and I’m left on hold for hours. its beyond frustrating. I hate this whole process, every last minute of it its like my dad is dying all over again everyday.

We are very sorry for your loss, Teresa. Typically, the funeral director notifies us of an individual’s passing by contacting the local Social Security office. To verify this information was reported, you can contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information.
