Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

Disgusting partisan message. It is not appropriate to celebrate such legislation that in no way reduces federal income taxes on Social Security benefits. This message is dishonest and misleading. Such communication undermines the credibility of all official government communication.

This information is untrue. The SSA should be taken to task for using tax payers funds to send out propaganda for TACO.

Hey, brown noser Frankie boy, why don’t you work on customer service so that we don’t have to be on hold for 2 to 3 hours or improve contacting SS instead of spending our hard-earned taxes sending blatant political propaganda?

The newly passed SS tax deduction of 6,000.00 is effective for tax year 25-28 only. If you are over 65 or disabled and receiving SS, you will be able to take this on your tax return, but you need to understand if you are eligible, the extra 6,000 tax deduction is added to the standard deduction of 16,000 in so combined will be 22,000. which reduces your taxes once your net income is determined. So understand two things, it is not factored in this deduction when calculating how much of your SS is taxable so that part is still going to effect your “net income” so your tax rate will be as high as it was before not lover your tax rates on your total income “net income”, you get the deduction only on the back end like paying on a 30 yr conventual mortgage and taking a credit off of year 30 not year one that could effect the interest they get on the loan. I also suspect it’s tied to the standard deduction so that you can’t itemize and receive this deduction.

Your email is an utter lie! No taxes on Social Security was NOT included in the Big Ugly Bill that our Felon-in-Chief signed! PBS just did a story about this fact. Shame on SSA for spreading lies and propaganda to American seniors. Also of grave concern is the fact that I have yet to receive my SSA Fairness Act lump sum payment of nearly $7400, promised in a late February SSA letter to be directly deposited into my bank account on file on March 18, 2025. It’s now July 5 & my money is still missing. The SSA blog is now claiming it could arrive as late as December 2025. This travesty is completely unacceptable! Again, for shame! President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who created SSA, is my 7th cousin once removed. He’s surely rolling in his grave right now.

SS has never before issued such a blatant, political statement!!!! The fact that tRump and minion SS Commissioner Frank Bisignano has hijacked a public institution to push overtly partisan propaganda is absolutely shameful and violates the Hatch Act, a law against partisan political activity by federal government employees. But as always, this Republican administration is unapologetically and disgustingly shameful.

I suggest not posting anything until you are able to clearly define to all beneficaries who these 90% are. It’s very misleading to not provide supporting information. You have given the opening statement of a paragraph and that is all.
