Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

But it will still be considered income and we will have to pay taxes on it at the end of year, correct?

This is BS. You shouldn’t lie/exaggerate/gaslight a fellow republican.

I may get an extra 4,000 deduction but not the 60,000+ SS benefits I’m taxed on.

Why don’t you mention the Byrd rule.

Let the politicians lie, that’s their business.
    Stay out of politics.

But it’s OK to lie and gaslight non-Republicans? Remember, we’re all in this together. We’re on the same sinking ship.

Please document and post the section of the Big Beautiful Bill that states Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits.

Train your employees better and clean up your IT section.

Just went through hell, (almost 90 years old) because an employee denied my application for SPOUSAL BENEFITS.
They said I needed 40 quarters of coverage. WRONG!

I am still waiting, 90 days for OPM to quit taking out my Medicare payments, now being taken out of SS annuity.

They owe me $555. Too bad I had to get Rep. Joe Wilson to straighten out this mess.

    This statement is not accurate:

“The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries,”

It still does answer the question if retired Americans receiving SS disability that are UNDER 65 (and NOT SSDI) will still be federally taxed. We are the one hurting bc we can’t work because of our disabilities. We are being punished for working all our lives and having money held back for our pensions and now can’t work anymore.

    Aloha,
I have NO idea why the Social Security Admin is so happy with the One Big Beautiful Bill (as it pertains to Seniors)??? We are STILL being TAXED on our Social Security! That tax deduction will not do ANYTHING to help Seniors that are BARELY getting by on their minimal SS benefit! On top of that the SNAP program and MEDICAID are BOTH going to leave an unbelievable number of seniors hungry and without much needed coverage. To tell those of us that are paying Medicare & have MEDICAID too that we will LOSE our MEDICAID is absolutely frightening. Life is already difficult.

This is a lie. Why are you spreading lies to the Anericsn people. The Big Beautiful Bill makes no changes to Social Security Benefits. They are still taxable.
