Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

As I understand the new provisions

    1. No taxes on SS payments to most beneficiaries

    2. In addition to no tax on SS , seniors 65 and older will be receiving an additional deduction of 6k for individual and 12k for married filing jointly if both are 65+ on earned income

    Am I correct ?

    Too vague.
Who are the 90% and who are the other 10%?

Why not create a Calculator where one enters age, current total benefits and income?

Well congratulations to all the wealthy recipients getting a tax break instead of raising social security for those in the poverty levels. But hey we’ve been doing great with trickle down economics. Might as well give them some more ways to screw over 60% of Americans on their right to live not in poverty because their SS will take a hit and healthcare will take the rest

That’s wonderful. When will the tax relief start and seniors are able to collect a full, non-taxed, social security payment?

You should be ashamed to use private contact information from our SSA accounts to send an obvious pro-Trump propaganda email pretending there is any net benefit to any non-billionaire American. This is the same propaganda technique used by the Third Reich, and we are only in the Secnd Reich of Trump.

This is pure propaganda and a disgrace. Also, why did you delete the hundreds of previous comments on this post?

Shame on you. “Big Beautiful Bill” is a political slogan. And to a senior trying to live on social security, it amounts to hate speech. The pennies I save in income tax will not begin to pay for the health care I am about to lose!

This is more manipulation by the Trump administration. For the real story, see https://govfacts.org/explainer/how-the-one-big-beautiful-bill-impacts-social-security/

I’m so thankful to DJT for finally being the president to present this bill to the house and senate. Our SS Never should have been allowed by the government to be taxed at all. All senior citizens that have worked all their lives and retired on a limited budget do struggle on whatever they receive and they have to pay government taxes? So the government can waste my money? Shameful!

And now only the top earners will get any benefit. So I guess you’re pulling in $75 to $100k on SS. Good for you.

Why don’t you mention how the trust fund will now run out 2 years sooner? Why email people this when they are not retirement age or even close. So they know they are going to lose more benefits for longer?
