Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

This bill feels like another “tone-deaf” move—rewarding government pensions while regular seniors get static benefits. It’s like a broken soundboard: same old tune, louder frustration. All seniors-the congresspigs overwhelming approved the “social security fairness act” signed into law by biden 1/25 and retroactive to 1/24. This eliminated ‘double dip’ provisions enacted in 1984 to help shore up social security (ss) funds by reducing ss benefits of individuals also receiving government pensions. Estimated cost to the treasury (taxpayers) over ten years is estimated at 233 billion dollars and expected ss funds to run out at least 6 months sooner. So, give our ss funds to government workers (including politicians & their appointed friends) who receive government pensions and then give us ss recipients a nominal tax deduction expiring in a few years then tell us ss recipients how wonderful the new tax bill is. In the formula used to calculate taxable ss benefits, the thresholds of 25k & 32k have never been updated for inflation-these amounts would be 75k & 96k now which is a real benefit to us non government pension people.

It’s it true with the taxes cuts that Social Security money will not be repaid and continue to be funded in the future? That it will be depleted in the future with this plan? Why is there not more transparency to taxpayers? Where can this information be found?

They’ll have enough for those that have paid in to the pool of benefits but only if these radicals stop giving it all away to illegal aliens, their disabled relatives, and their elderly who never even worked here and have no legal ssn to even collect these benefits!! Yet theyve been giving them all our paid for benefits. Why do you think they raised the retirement age by two years? 65 to now 67 years old? At this rate ill be dead by then!

Undocumented persons don’t receive Social Security benefits.

Try getting info from trustworthy new source instead of one that stokes your hatred against people you don’t know and whose circumstances (including eligibility for US supports and services) you are imagining, with the help of hate media.

They absolutely get our Social Security benefits, not under undocumented or illegal aliens, but as asylum seekers. It’s just a word game to the radical left. I guess you never saw the video of Clinton as president, back when there was moderate Democrats, admitting to that fact. Do your research.

Undocumented workers pay into Social Security if they have a EIN number or SS number, but unless they are legal, they will never collect the benefits they have paid into. This is a well known fact. They are in essence contributing to keep Social Security benefits afloat, so don’t be to harsh on them

          • Bill

They absolutely do not get social security benefits. They get SSI which is Supplemental Security Income and is not related to Social Security. Of course, those posting ridiculous statements such as yours wouldn’t know the difference.

Love this because you are correct!! I go to the pharmacy and pay $600 in co-pays yet illegal aliens get free!! How is that ok when I worked since I was 14!

This is an outright lie. Nothing has changed about the taxing of social security benefits. Not only has the President exposed himself once again as being a pathological liar, he’s dragged the SSA into his lies as well. Extremely disappointing and downright pathetic!

The way I’m reading it is when it says enhanced deduction…
So if your over 65 you can take an additional 6000 per individual off your total income.
Now I don’t feel like that is very much at all. It’s not a lie; it’s using words to make it sound better then what it is.
Now here is the twist. They give something in one area and take it away somewhere else.
That means they increased overall tX by 1.7%!!!! So they will compensate more revenue then the 6000 they gave the seniors. Plus the seniors will also pay that increase as well.
Honestly the 6000 is really nothing as far as I’m concerned!!!
It sucks to get your hopes up and then wake up to the manipulation of words.
Hopefully in time with tariffs it will get better????? I wish we could fire them all and let each state run there own state!

For seniors living on Social Security, who are actually living below, poverty level, this will not make any difference at all, because although taxes withheld, they will get all of that back…….

For those of us who are continuing to work, but not making enough money to not collect Social Security benefits, this will be a great assistance. I am working two jobs. I’m in my 70s. My Social Security benefit untaxed would pay for my property tax, which is skyrocketed in New York State and it will pay for the increases and rates for my Medicare blue choice plan , my auto insurance and homeowners has doubled due to the massive numbers of MVA in America and natural disaster destruction of homes, insurance companies, refusing to cover earthquakes and other different disasters so then our insurance rates are actually quadruple now….. are foreign owned utility company where I live is doubled the cost of our utilities, even though the cost for them to make that energy has not increased, so my Social Security benefit is paying for those things, but does not cover food, fuel costs for transportation, cost of home maintenance, the cost of owning a vehicle, clothing, communication costs, education, other costs associated with being a responsible, super ager, The vitamins, minerals, and other supplements, or any form of entertainment. I spent $5000 a year in gasoline on average $2500-$3000 a year and taking care of my auto, about $6000 a year in property in home upkeep, about 13 1/2 thousand in property tax not on the star program in New York State Then it is about 7500 a year….. the cost for me to have the kind of food necessary to be a super agent costs about 5500 ……. And then I am paying about 1500a year for communication so I can have Internet a telephone and watch the news and have Internet….. so you figure outside of what my Social Security benefit pays. I need another $28,500. For cost of living and that does not reflect any type of vacation, travel clothing, expenses, education costs for continuing education, or working towards a degree program being a senior…… I figure that the income tax and state and federal and still paying in to Social Security and other taxes out of my wages that working the two jobs as a senior help me to cover that $28,500. I need over and above my Social Security…… one job won’t cover it because the wage is taxed so heavily……. But the alternative is living in a senior subsidized, cement, black wall and floor, two room apartment in some city or town.. I know that when the day comes that I am no longer able to work two jobs. I hope that never happens and I am working towards being a super major and doing all of the responsible things so that I can continue to work those two jobs and not have to live in one of those cement prisons until I die or in transferred to a hospice center……. Yep as a single woman I am just so thrilled about that $6000 that for me means that Social Security benefit is no longer taxed!!!!! That 10% taken out of my benefit this year can be used towards pain my income tax and state tax instead of that frightening need to come up with what did not get taken out of my paycheck at tax time. Many seniors are terrified of property tax time and filing income tax times……..

It is sad when you look to a government agency to provide truthfull information but only find it conflates the determination of taxable social security benefits with a total seperate provision dealing the Senior Bonus Deduction. Shame on you!!!!
Therefore, my taxable social security benefits are calculated the same as in the past. I may seperately receive an enhanced senior deduction provided I don’t make too much.

Youre just lucky that so called ‘woman’ didnt get installed like old senile joe did! We dodged a bullet when she couldn’t cheat hard or smart enough like they did in 2020 with that old fraud. Imagine where we might be right now if she was in that House!! We’d be in WWIV under communist rule and you wouldn’t need to worry about some lousy little tax deduction. You’d be looking for your next meal in a trash can or some field, rats, bugs, and weeds!! A communist party dining suggestion!

Somebody is lying but its not our great president Trump! Its the leftists in blue states especially where theyre still taxing us to death to force us to support all of these illegal aliens that invaded by the millions! Theyre not supposed to continue to get food stamps or MediCal in California but our lovely gubnor sees fit to override the majority of legal California.voters and uses what little tax money there might be left still trickling in, after he’s done draining our once great state’s budget into the never ending human cesspool of coddled criminals and protected illegal aliens! This sanctuary state has been run off a radical cliff into a filthy rat/vermin infested homeless drug addicts campground, Where the law breakers, homeless, illegals, and the drug addicted actually surpass the good citizens in importance, get in their way in line, and actually flourish as they hustle daily to earn their next fix by selling their free resources, govt handouts, food stamps, and welfare benefits to anyone with some cash. That I refuse to work myself to death for, they have no respect for our laws or our country and its a shame we should be forced to pay their dues while we cant clothe or feed our own.

Might depend on if they actually worked to earn and pay taxes for credits towards their benefits. If they have little to no work history they probably need to pay taxes on it. Also look at the state you live in. Blue states hate citizens and they show it, and they let us know it! Sanctuary for theee and not for me!! They just send us the bill for it all!!

I have a suggestion with the newly found income from tariffs. It seems that we can make huge cuts in the taxes of our social security, like the gentleman, said, before it’s already been taxed. Now we’re being taxed again, that is so morally wrong. Step up to the plate, President Trump and make this right for us, seniors.

If you need to raise your bp, look at the “social security fairness act” signed by biden and supported by a majority of congress regardless of their party. It eliminates certain provisions established in 1984 enacted to reduce social benefits of individuals who receive both government pensions and social security. So it was good for 40 years. Estimated cost of this-taxpayers 233 billion dollars over 10 years and ss running out of money at least 6 months sooner. No benefit to us relying on just ss but toss us a 6,000 dollar bone for a few years.
