I am trying to notify the passing of my mother, Marie Bloomquist, xxx-xx=xxxx, on January 6, 2020. In calling I ask for a call back but it puts me through to a wait which is said to be over 1 hour 15 minutes.

    • A.C.

Hi, Roger. We are sorry to hear about your loss. Typically, the funeral director notifies us of an individual’s passing by sending the deceased person’s death certificate to their local Social Security office. However, you may report the death of your mother by submitting her death certificate to your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

Hi, Robert. Generally, identity theft issues are handled by the Federal Trade Commission. You can find more information on their website: http://www.idtheft.gov or by calling 1-877-IDTHEFT (1-877-438-4338). To learn more about the steps individuals can take to prevent or resolve issues of identity theft, check out our publication, Identity Theft and Your Social Security Number. We hope this helps.

I tried everything possible to find a way to change my appointment online, but with much frustration, I didn’t find anything.

    • A.C.

Hi, Margarette. At this time there is not a way to schedule or change an appointment online. You can schedule or change an appointment with your local office by calling us at 1-800-772-1213 between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Thanks!

My birthday is incorrect on my social security account. How do I correct this?

    • A.C.

Hi, Anne. Thanks for your question. You will need to visit the local Social Security office or the nearest Card Center in your area, complete an application and submit evidence of age and evidence of identity to support the change. We’ll need to see a certified copy of your birth certificate to correct your date of birth on our records. Your valid State ID or Driver’s License or your U.S. passport can be used as proof of identification. We hope this helps.

I want to update my password but the system would not allow it. So I am unable to get online with the service. I also tried to call but that does not work. I tried to ask to be called back that didn’t work. I do not contact SSA often maybe that’s why my password didn’t work. So Frustrating.

Your website will not let me establish an account and I assume it’s because of my credit freezes. After the data breach with Equifax I put a credit freeze with all 3 credit reporting companies. Why does SSA need to see my credit reports?
