    I applied on line for a social security replacement card on or around 5/7/2018.
    I still have not received it or any information on the status. I’m having difficulty trying to follow up the status. It’s been almost one month and I’m concerned.

    I would like a replacement card sent to my address on file.

      Hi, Shante. Keep in mind you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. My state id is expired i have not worked in 4 years i have a birth certificate and utility bills , how can i get a ss card? it seems im in no mans land can get id without SS and cant get SS because everything is expired must be something i can do….

    • R.F.

      Hello Joseph. Generally, your birth certificate is used as proof of birth and citizenship. We use it to establish your Social Security record.
      We prefer a government issued document with your picture, as proof of identity to replace your Social Security card. If you do not have one or you cannot get one within a reasonable amount of time, we may be able to use other documents such as school identification card, health insurance card, or a recent medical record.
      Any document you submit, must be an original or certified copy, current (not expired) and show your name, and other identifying information (date of birth or age).
      Also, realize that you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important.

    • R.F.

      Hi Ranish, we prefer a government issued document with your picture, as proof of identity to replace your Social Security card. If you do not have one or you cannot get one within a reasonable amount of time, we may be able to use other documents such as:
      •Employee identification card;
      •School identification card;
      •Health insurance card; or
      •U.S. military identification card.
      Any document you submit, must be an original or certified copy, current (not expired) and show your name, and other identifying information (date of birth or age).
      Your Social Security number does not change when you request a replacement Social Security card.
      Also, realize that you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important.

  8. Samuel S.

    Can I get a replaced card by using my prison id card

    • R.F.

      Hello Samuel. Generally, prison and parole documents are not acceptable as evidence of identity, unless received directly from the institution (detention center) participating on a formal memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Social Security Administration (SSA).
      Under the terms of a signed MOU, we may process properly completed (SS-5) applications from certain prison inmates when accompanied by a certification statement from an authorized prison official as evidence of the inmate’s identity. We recommend you check with the institution’s counselors for more details on this topic.
