your on-line application to establish an account in order to get a replacement SS card is glitchy.

It would not recognize that my email address ABSOLUTELY matched, and locked me out for 24 hours

How do I order a new card? The Social Security debit card. And I need to change the address

    • K.O.

Hello Patricia. You may be referring to Direct Express. For questions and assistance relating to Direct Express cards, you may call the Direct Express helpline at 1-800-333-1795 for support.
To change your address, you can create a personal my Social Security account which allows you to change your address online. If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income, you should contact your local office immediately. We hope this helps. Thanks!

Can I use my prison ID or a copy of ID to get a replacement card?

    • V.V.

Hi Leroy, thank you for your question. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. If you do not qualify to apply online, then you can apply by mail or visit your local office with required documentation. All documents must be either originals or certified copies. To learn more on how to get a replacement card, what documentation is acceptable and to see if you can apply online, please visit our “Social Security Number and Card” web page.

I have been an exchange program student (an international student) in the U.S. between 2002-2004 and had my social security card (SSN) during my studies. Now I am back in my country and have recently received a practicum offer from a U.S. based organization. However, I seem to have misplaced my SSN and would like to know if I can get a replacement card or something for my official application for that offer?

Thank you for your response in advance.

Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. We hope this information helps.
