I have lost my social security card
R.F.
Hi Debra, we prefer a government issued document with your picture, as proof of identity to replace your Social Security card. If you do not have one or you cannot get one within a reasonable amount of time, we may be able to use other documents such as:
•Employee identification card;
•School identification card;
•Health insurance card; or
•U.S. military identification card.
Any document you submit, must be an original or certified copy, current (not expired) and show your name, and other identifying information (date of birth or age).
Also, realize that you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. To see if you’re eligible to apply for a replacement Social Security card online or to learn more on the process and what documents you will need to get a card, please visit our “New or Replacement Social Security Number and Card” web page. We hope this helps!

Is it possible to get a social with just a birth certificate ?
R.F.
Hi Charles, you can use a birth certificate as proof of age or citizenship. Usually, we use it when we first establish your Social Security record. To get a replacement Social Security card you will need to present documents proving your identity. Please visit our “New or Replacement Social Security Number and Card” web page for more information. Thanks!

No unfortunately you can’t get a new SSI card with your birth certificate. I was just at the SSI office getting a new SSI card. I had to bring my drivers license with me. But then they wouldn’t let me use my drivers license because it was expired. But if you have a recent drivers license your good. I had to have something current with my name and birthdate on it. The woman told me to go to my dr office and get something current with my name and birthdate on it and get it signed or stamped. I did. And it worked out fine.

Hello, your site is SO frustrating – I qualify to request a replacement card online, but the site keeps taking me around in circles and making me log in over and over without taking me to where I can order the card. Help??
R.F.
Hi Mary. We experienced a brief period of interruption with the “my Social Security account” earlier today. Services have been restored and processing normally at this time. If you continue to have difficulties, please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213. After you hear “Briefly tell me why you are calling,” say “Help Desk” and ask one of our representatives to assist you. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for bringing this to our attention.
