    I have applied for new card but have not received it

    • R.F.

      Hello Keith. Typically, after we receive your application, verify your documents and process your request, you should receive your replacement Social Security card by mail within 10 business days. If you applied for a Social Security card for the first time, it may take longer than 30 days.
      On your receipt there should be a local phone number for you to call and speak to someone about the status of your Social Security card or you may have to return to the Social Security office or Card Center where you filed your application. When you go, take the documents you originally presented as evidence.
      Please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 for further assistance. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thanks!

    There is no access to getting an updated SS card on my account????

    • V.V.

      Hi Larry, thank you for using our blog to ask your question. You can use a my Social Security account to request a replacement Social Security card online if you:
      • Are a U.S. citizen age 18 years or older with a U.S. mailing address;
      • Are not requesting a name change or any other change to your card; and
      • Have a driver’s license or a state-issued identification card from one of the many participating states. If your state does not yet participate in this service, check back soon. More states are added regularly.

      If you cannot apply for a card online, you will need to show the required documents. We need to see different documents depending on your citizenship and the type of card you are requesting. See Learn What Documents You Need to find out what documents you will have to show.

      Hi Elie. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. If you do not qualify to apply online, then you can apply by mail or visit your local office with required documentation. All documents must be either originals or certified copies. To learn more on how to get a replacement card and see if you can apply online, please visit our “Social Security Number and Card” web page.
