    how do i replace my mothers social security which is expired but she lives in mexico …she is 82 years and i claim her as my dependent ,,,i send her money every month

    • V.V.

      Hi Gloria: Thank you for your question. Because of privacy and security concerns, you cannot apply for a Social Security card on behalf of your mother. Because your mother resides outside the United States, she can contact her nearest Federal Benefits Unit for assistance.

    I am applying for a replacement social security card that was stolen from me. I have to do this by mail. Is a copy of my driver’s license enough to mail in with the application? Or a copy of my passport?

    • R.F.

      Hi Betty, we prefer a government issued document with your picture, as proof of identity to replace your Social Security card. If you do not have one or you cannot get one within a reasonable amount of time, we may be able to use other documents such as:
      •Employee identification card;
      •School identification card;
      •Health insurance card; or
      •U.S. military identification card.
      Any document you submit, must be an original or certified copy, current (not expired) and show your name, and other identifying information (date of birth or age).
