I just tried calling the San Francisco SS office. Was hung up on 3 times in a row. Now reading others comments here and wondering if SS needs new phone equipment to avoid these hang-ups — or is it that many employees are cutting off calls for some reason? I applied for my retirement benefits online and saw it approved after 4 days – but have waited now almost 4 MONTHS and no letters, no payments, nothing. So I called. Guess what? They couldn’t help me and suggested I wait a couple more weeks to see if payment is processed. Also I see that the reply to these comments are identical form replies that mostly appear unhelpful as they suggest doing what people have already done before they wrote in.

I applied for Medicare A and B last Dec 2 2021, i need to show my original copies of birth certificate and naturalization certificate. I called the local office and no one answered. I tried again, again and someone answered but hang up. How can they process my application if they cannot see the original docs? Checked my SSA account and my application is pending.

I have been trying to reach my analysist for help completing forms needed days ago that are now late. I left 2 messages with no response. I tried to call the office directly to reach someone/anyone for assistance and after waiting 1 hour, someone finally answered, I explained my situation and they hung up. I call back and on hold again for 30 mins and it hung up again. This can deny my application for being late and it is not my fault. I need help and can not get through to get assistance. So frustrating. What can I do?

They don’t respond very well. I requested for extension to fill the forms. I was approved extension and sent in the forms before the extension deadline. Now I am without the payment for thsi month and have bills to pay !!! I called Inquiring and was told that she is reinstating my benefits as we speak. I didn’t receive any payment yet. I called again few days later and was told the one handling most cases need to fix the system that automatically shuts benefits if forms are delayed. I called left voice mail for that person. She never calls back. Never. So now am left on limbo. What about the bills waiting to be paid ? Omg. People with a caring heart needs to work in such places not people who care not what recipients are going through. Such stress only worsens their health !!

I have been on the phone with my local Social Sercurity office for more than a hour. Then I was hang up on. Now I am on the phone again this time I have been on the phone for a half hour. It is a shame that no one answers the phone. You can never get any help.

    • Neemi

Very true. I wonder what would these people do if they didn’t get their paychecks due to others cruelty ? Many are so rude … Karma will get them.

My name is Nora and I moved to the United States in September on green card and need to get a social security number. +1 (888) 327-1271 Is the number I called and I am on the waiting line for 15 minutes until I am kicked out before I can speak to an agent. this is the number to get an appointment. For months I have been trying to get my social security which I was receiving before my husband passed. I am retired and need it. Everyone I have talked to at social security says they will call back and give a status but never do. I need my social security now. I feel like they have just said they will give a status and call back to get me off the phone. I am not going to give up. I worked for 50 yrs and paid my share of social security. Its been 3 months with no check and no answers. Its time to get this done.

Have been trying to stop/cancel my Part B enrollment for a month! Cannot get any communication from SS. I have called, followed instructions, mailed letters, delivered form to Drop Box at local office, no response. I do not need Part B yet, I already have insurance, I cannot afford the 1/2 of my SS check they are deducting in January but I can’t seem to stop it.

  10. Efren C.

Have been trying to find out the status of my Medicare Part B application. Fax forms CMs-40B and CMS-L564 to fax no. 1- 833 914 2016 as instructed on the SSA pub.05-10012. Did not hear from SSA so I applied online for Medicare Part B and attached pay stub and CMS-L564 (Reqst for Employment Verification ). Did online signature.Check my SSA account and after 2 weeks and still no status of my application. Was told by Medicare to contact local SSA offc. Called the local SSA offc but the guy who answered hung up on me.
