man on laptop We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

  2. David M.

I need to get a copy of a 1099 for 2018 for my father that has passed away 7/09/2018. I did not receive anything for him. Trying to file his last set of tax returns.

    • A.C.

We are sorry to hear about your loss, David. The SSA-1099 is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If the SSA-1099 cannot be located, the executor will need to go into the local Social Security office with proof of death and proof of executorship. A SSA-1099 may also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased. If you need more information, call our toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) and ask a representative for assistance. We hope this helps.

I tried getting into my social security account. I was asked privacy questions and couldn’t get in because I was asked what my first model car was that I owned and since I was married I don’t rememcer whhich car it was. I tried to answer five times unsuccessfully and got bounced out.

I am trying to find my SS Benefits form. I didn’t see it come in and I am preparing my taxes right now. I need it ASAP. I can give you my login and SS #. Please send info to my email: bella.dilly@gmail.com. I can then send my login and SS #.

    Thank you,
    Diana Lynn Zimmerman

  4. Lori H.

It would be nice to have the option of having this mailed to you. My father is 78 and does not use computers. This leaves the burden on the family to set up an account, etc… We don’t want an account, we need the form mailed.

    • A.C.

Hi, Lori. Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, you can only create a personal my Social Security account using your own personal information and for your own exclusive use. You cannot create or use an account on behalf of another person, even if you have that person’s written permission. For security reasons, and for your father’s protection, he can contact or visit his local Social Security office. They can assist with a replacement 1099. We hope this helps.
