No Need to Visit a Field Office: Replace Your SSA-1099 Benefit Statement Online

The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

      Hi. In order to have taxes withheld from your Social Security benefit, you must start by printing, completing and submitting an IRS Voluntary Withholding Request Form (Form W-4V). On this form, you can choose to have 7, 10, 12, or 22 percent of your monthly benefit withheld. The Form W-4V (to withhold federal taxes from your Social Security benefits) can be returned to your local Social Security office by mail or in person.       Hi, Gary. Since you are already receiving benefits, you can call us to set up an appointment to file on your own record. Keep in mind, You do not have to make an appointment to come in to our offices, but with an appointment, you will be helped before our walk-in customers. You can schedule an appointment with your local office by calling us at 1-800-772-1213 between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a representative will assist you.     How do you get a copy of a 2018 SSA 1099 for a deceased person?

      Hi, Harvie. We are sorry to hear about your loss. The SSA-1099 is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If you did not receive the benefit statement, the executor will need to go into the local Social Security office with proof of death and proof of executorship. An SSA-1099 can also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased.     I am assisting my 92 year old father with his taxes and does not use a computer. He misplaced his ss 1099 document to be turned into the accountant. So he needs a replacement.
    It looks like I cannot go in and do that for him as noted.
    How can we obtain a replacement 2018 ss 1099 rather quickly for this years tax reporting.

      Hi, David. You are correct. You can only create a my Social Security account using your own personal information and for your own exclusive use. You cannot create or use an account on behalf of another person, even if you have that person’s written permission. Your father can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. He can also contact his local Social Security office for assistance. We hope this helps.

    I want to print a replacement 1099 form for 2016. Your instructions say I can do this from my computer. But your website doesn’t allow me to make the request. My only other option is to call your toll free number. I have now been on hold for 45 minutes. There must be a better way to get this form. Thank you.

Our national toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213, has representatives available Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. For years prior to the last year, please call us again.
