New Guidance about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

“The Treasury Department launched a new web tool allowing quick registration for Economic Impact Payments for eligible individuals who do not normally file a tax return, and also announced that it would begin making automatic payments.  However, for some people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration—specifically those who have dependent children under the age of 17—it is to their advantage to go to this portal to ensure they also get the $500 per dependent Economic Impact Payment.  I encourage them to do this as soon as possible, and want to provide the following details:

People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should now go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.  By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.  If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

The same new guidance also applies to SSI recipients, especially those who have qualifying children under age 17.  To receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for, go to the IRS’s Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info page and provide information about yourself and your qualifying children.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information.

Lastly, for Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries who do not have qualifying children under age 17, you do not need to take any action with the IRS.  You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS as long as you received an SSA-1099 for 2019.

For SSI recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17, we continue to work closely with Treasury in our efforts to make these payments automatically.  Please note that we will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found at the IRS’s Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page.  In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.”

I’m on Disability and have a Representative Payee and I haven’t received my stimulus check yet and no one will answer me or doesn’t even know if I qualify i put my information in the get my payment tool it says payment status not available i have direct deposit i also filled out the non fillers form to make sure they had the information and still nothing .I wish someone would just answer me instead of just letting me wonder if I’m going to get one at all.

I’m on SSDI. Please someone at ssa answer this or address this please. There are no recourse at the Irs.gov for getting help about this.

On SSDI and I still haven’t had my EIP deposited yet. I go use the irs getmypayment tool and it gives me status not valuable. I know the information is correct for the tool because it lets me put the information in the max times of 5 a day. If I wasn’t putting correct authentication info it would lock me out after 3 tries for 24 hours. I tested this yesterday to see if it would lock me out.

It was announced by treasury and the IarS the EIP checks would be deposited by the end of April which obviously it’s pass that dead line. Also, alll SSR and SSDI beneficiary’s are suppose to be in the irs getmypayment database by now.

Only once’s left getting benefit from SSA that aren’t loaded into the getpayment database are SSI and also VA but they aren’t ssa.

Please help us address this issue and not refer us to the irs as they are not reachable and there are no answers to this on their website.

    Please help.

May 5th and still nothing. The IRS and now even our local house reps have taken the phone off the hook and half the country is still waiting on their money. How do we even know the IRS is going to make these payments? That they “say so” means nothing. They’re just bunch of liars, crooks, and thieves…and everyone knows it. Where’s our money?

i get disability and I haven’t gotten my check yet does anyone know when

  6. Jessie

We qualify for the economic stimulus payment, and have heard that it will be deposited to the same account as our social security retirement check is every month. But I read on the irs.gov site that they are mailing paper checks to social security recipients that didn’t get a tax refund, so which is right? **** I realize the money is coming from the IRS, but are they going to deposit it in the direct deposit accts used by Social Security or not?****
Please answer…….this is getting extremely frustrating for those of us who just need facts to make sure we’re not waiting until September.

    • Joseph

      1) It’s a stimulus check. Not a “stimulate” check lol.

      2) It’s SSI, not “sis” lol.

Come on. If you’re going to post, at least learn how to write in English. In only takes an IQ of about 50.

        Who are you?

    • V.V.

Hi Debra, thank you for your question. If you’re receiving Social Security such as retirement, survivors or disability benefits, unemployment insurance income does not affect your benefits and does not need to be reported. However, if you’re receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you need to report all of your income, including unearned income such as unemployment. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.

For more about reporting income, check out the online booklet, Understanding Supplemental Security Income. To report your income, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

My husband and I are both disabled and receive SSDI. I am my husband’s payee. I received my $1200.00 stimulus direct deposit on 4-29-2020. My husband has not received his stimulus direct deposit payment. Is there anything we need to do so he receives his stimulus direct deposit payment? We are non-filers. Please let us know. Thank you.
