New Guidance about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

“The Treasury Department launched a new web tool allowing quick registration for Economic Impact Payments for eligible individuals who do not normally file a tax return, and also announced that it would begin making automatic payments.  However, for some people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration—specifically those who have dependent children under the age of 17—it is to their advantage to go to this portal to ensure they also get the $500 per dependent Economic Impact Payment.  I encourage them to do this as soon as possible, and want to provide the following details:

People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should now go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.  By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.  If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

The same new guidance also applies to SSI recipients, especially those who have qualifying children under age 17.  To receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for, go to the IRS’s Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info page and provide information about yourself and your qualifying children.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information.

Lastly, for Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries who do not have qualifying children under age 17, you do not need to take any action with the IRS.  You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS as long as you received an SSA-1099 for 2019.

For SSI recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17, we continue to work closely with Treasury in our efforts to make these payments automatically.  Please note that we will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found at the IRS’s Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page.  In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.”

It’s been clearly stated by both IRS and SSA that people who didn’t file taxes in 2018 or 2019 and are receiving ss retirement, SSDI, railroad retirement vets etc should receive their stimulus money by late April, Wednesday the 29th, through the method they normally get their benefits, like Direct Express, direct deposit to your bank, etc. They just started sending those so don’t expect to get it right THIS SECOND because they have millions of people to send to. Be realistic for crying out loud lol

fuck u they put it in 2 weeks ago fuckfaces like u already got it may u get covid19

      • Joan

There’s a special place in hell for those who wish a fatal disease on someone else. Get a heart.

  2. Cindi

On SSDI, Not required to file taxes, get pd on 3rd each month, Direct Deposit into US Direct Express every month, it’s after 5am Central Time Zone & No Stimulus pmt yet, Nothing showing pending.
The Get My Refund tool on IRS website says same ol’ thing “Payment Status Unavailable.
Absolutely Nothing in my circumstances has changed for several yrs.
Why have I not received my Stimulus $$$$?

  3. Valerie

I have been doing research for hours trying to figure this out for my mom. She receives SSI(I think, not SSDI) and it is sent to a direct express visa card every month. The tracking tool on the IRS website says her stimulus check was deposited on April 15th successfully but she has not received anything. I also haven’t been able to find a way to verify what her account number even is with direct express so we are unsure if the IRS sent her money to the correct account.
For anyone who uses a direct express card for benefits and still has not received a stimulus check, what does the payment status say on the get my payment tool on the IRS website?
Does anyone’s payment status say successfully processed on the IRS website but you have not received the money?

We’re going crazy over this crap and apparently cannot even call the IRS to figure out what’s going on.

    • Lauren

My mama has Direct Express Card, and I checked for her on Get My Payment IRS website, and it says Need More Information. Then it said she was entitled to check but they don’t have her banking info.So I don’t know.I thought it was going on the Direct Express card where her other money goes.

      • Gary h.

it’s supposed to go on our Direct Express Card but Direct Express company has their head so far up their ass they can’t see the light of day they’re the worst car company I’ve ever dealt with in my life they’ve done nothing but make my life miserable for the past 8 years

        • Joan

I have direct deposit through chase bank and nothing yet.

    • Christina J.

I’ve been checking my direct express card daily.I also have also daily.Logged onto the irs.gov website daily. Many people, including those not on social security benefits. Are getting the “payment status not available”reply.Including myself, your not alone.I check the various news/media outlets daily. To see if one can access an exact payment date for social security beneficiaries.I don’t know where people are finding. An April 29th,2020 deposit date.I have read end of April for SSD.And SSI beginning of May.Yes,it is frustrating.Dates have gone back and forth. For those of us receiving social security benefits. We should be given the exact dates for our deposits. Those that pay taxes have been given the right. To know the exact dates for their deposits but,not us.Most of us on social security are living below poverty level.I don’t know about you.Iam looking forward to the stimulus check to pay ahead on bills. And stock up on as much food as possible. The future is uncertain because of the corona virus. Many of the resources we were able to access before the corona virus.Have closed.Day treatment programs, counselling centers, soup kitchens and some pantries. The public city busses in my area have even shut down. And now the laundry mat I go to.Is talking about closing. This corona virus is not just affecting those who lost their jobs right now.Life for many of us on social security has become harder as well. Many of the resources. We utilize to help us supplement our checks have had their doors close right now.I am angry that those on social security. Are not being given an exact date for our deposits. And it is frustrating when you hear that some on social security.Have already seen their deposits.Checks are being mailed out by the treasury today to millions.Yet,media reported for the last several weeks. That those on ssd etc.would be the 2nd wave of deposits. And that mailing out checks would be last.People, will be seeing checks in the mail. Before most of us on disability will see our deposits. All most of want to know is that were definitely elgible for a check .And that their will be an exact date. When you check”Get My Payment”on the irs.gov website. And all you keep getting back.Is “Status Not Available”.You receive no confirmation. That you even may be elgible for a check or not.It is frustrating..I am thankfull though that senators and others.Advocated on our behalf,so we would’nt be left out.The money is to stimulate the economy. Not just because or just for those recently unemployed.I am tired of those pointing fingers at social security recipients. And saying, were not deserving. Some of us have worked. Some of us are educated. Some of us have severe physical or mental disabilities.I myself am a year short of a bachellor’s degree. The economic impact payments. Were enacted to stimulate the economy. No one should be bullying or putting down social security recipients. These payments are for everybody………………..

        Beverly,
From everything that I’ve seen, we will get the money with our benefits on the 1st of May.
        Hope this helps!

        • Gerald h.

Seriously don’t hold your breath on it being with our benefits

The treasury department is paying us…not social security

  8. d. w.

You are **InCorrect**, ‘they’ are NOT the reason we get paid monthly . . it is because we worked 50 years while SS took money out of our paychecks E V E R Y week !!

    • Pgilham

I didn’t quite work 50 years but I did work 30 and while I paid into civil service retirement the Results are the same. Unfortunately I’m not physically able to go back to work so I make do on my retirement . My cola increase never reflects my real cost of living and I’m pretty conservative when it comes to spending money because I’m on a fixed income people tell the truth

  9. Nathifa

What about if a child under 17 gets ssi how does the stimulus payment works

    • Mike

      Good question

    • Heather s.

They should have had something similar to an injured spouse form or injured dependent because I have a 10 year old son from my 2nd marriage.who receives my husband/his father’s ss survivor benefits..I owed some arrears from my first marriage ..I knew he’d get my tax refunds..and my stimulus ,its the federalinterception program and it’s just how that goes..but WHY they took my other sons 500.00ck as well and sent it towards MY debt I think is completely wrong. Even if hes my dependent..under my ss# there should have been something they wrote in to avoid that..my opinion. Tho

    • Crystal

Did you ever find the answer to this question because that is the exact situation I am in.

    • V.V.

Hi Nathifa, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. Hope this helps!

      • Gary H.

Please stop giving us the runaround and tell us when we are going to expect our checks give us a specific date not when and where and how we’d like to know now it’s upsetting for us we have bills to pay and some of us are starving some of us do not have food in our home because of this damn pandemic Federal president didn’t give a damn about and we’re all paying the price for it get the shit together already

  10. Rich m.

Wow… What has social security come to. I read half. These comments and it makes me cringe. For one people on a fixed income should of been no worse off then they started. Whole point of this check is to help those that just lost there jobs and have nothing but bills now. I’m on ssi and I’m not starving. Sounds more like those few raging need to have people manage there money then for them if they are in need of money that badly. Cause I’m pretty sure the 5.7million without any income are more of a priority right now. If it was not for them you wouldn’t have your monthly payments. Sit down and wait like everyone else and stop acting like entitled brats

    • Randy m.

      Ok boomer, ya seemed triggered.

      • Theresa D.

Really so you think it is alright that persons receiving unemployment are not only getting the normal benefits between 81-356 dollars a week but an additional $600 on top of? Who are you to judge people and throw stones folks on Disability like myself do our best and you are not our judge or jury! Take another pain pill your just RUDE!

    • d. w.

You are **InCorrect**, ‘they’ are NOT the reason we get paid monthly . . it is because we worked 50 years while SS took money out of our paychecks E V E R Y week !!

    • Rd

Just because you get SSI doesn’t give you the right to shake your finger at all these people. Glad you are so well off on SSI income but in the real world everyone needs the money

    • Floyd

My old lady works I’m on disability . We can only make ends meet together. She’s not working now. So now my little check can’t stretch enough to make ends meet. As well inflation is on the rise as we get deeper into this. A dozen regs now at Walmart is $3.50 or more. Put all that aside. Most people are struggling before this corona BS. This money is a small break or reliefe from the struggle. It’s badly needed by us bottom feeders. Even if there wasn’t a Chrises .

    • Pgilham

Takes one to know one. Some retiree are helping those who got laid off because it’s a guarantee source of income. Lighten up dude

    • Gary h.

Go stick it up your ass i worked all my life and broke my back in three places and split my pelvis into and split my sanctum into. And you don’t pay my way for anything. So mind your own business.

    • mrL

y are u even on it then may i wish u get corona and spread to

    • Kim F.

I agree Rich M. Some of these comments are so….how should I put it? Disrespectful and uncalled for. I’m an SSI as well, my rent and other bills are paid and have food to eat . I have said this before all this started about the Stimulus check and before they included those of us unable to work.
“I don’t depend on anything I don’t already have in my hand!” Be grateful if you have, did or don’t get one, my bills come first never no extra for much of anything (no hair cuts, no nails being done no new clothes, and whenever I see something I would like to buy for myself perhaps I did get something it’s on sale at Dollar general or something. Yes that would help tremendously and I’m sorry but do you realize that third world countries like Africa, people don’t have SSI, unemployment, food stamps hell they can’t even have electric anytime they want (and yes they pay electric bills) their government shuts it off whenever they want, some times they for days without electricity. Can’t buy food and refrigerate or freeze it because it would just go bad . They work and don’t get paid for weeks, possibly months, and their is nothing they can do about it, IF YOU A WEALTHY you can’t fight them.
So whoever thinks they have it bad Please thank God almighty you was born here. Oh did I mention they don’t make very much to begin with if they even get paid at all.
So please be thankful if and when we get the money. Sure would/will be nice.
I also have not heard anything but the first of May. Good luck and God bless all of you.
