New Guidance about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

“The Treasury Department launched a new web tool allowing quick registration for Economic Impact Payments for eligible individuals who do not normally file a tax return, and also announced that it would begin making automatic payments.  However, for some people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration—specifically those who have dependent children under the age of 17—it is to their advantage to go to this portal to ensure they also get the $500 per dependent Economic Impact Payment.  I encourage them to do this as soon as possible, and want to provide the following details:

People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should now go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.  By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.  If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

The same new guidance also applies to SSI recipients, especially those who have qualifying children under age 17.  To receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for, go to the IRS’s Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info page and provide information about yourself and your qualifying children.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information.

Lastly, for Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries who do not have qualifying children under age 17, you do not need to take any action with the IRS.  You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS as long as you received an SSA-1099 for 2019.

For SSI recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17, we continue to work closely with Treasury in our efforts to make these payments automatically.  Please note that we will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found at the IRS’s Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page.  In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.”

IF YOU ARE RECEIVING SSDI AND DIDNT HAVE TO FILE YOU WILL MOST LIKELY GET YOUR PAYMENT NEXT MONTH AS A PART OF YOUR MONTHLY BENEFIT. OPEN YOUR EYES CAN YOU NOT SEE THE GAME THATS BEING PLAYED ON US? THATS WHY THERE IS NO INFORMATION ABOUT ANY ACTUAL DEPOSIT DATES FOR US EVEN THOUGH WE ALL HAVE 1099S ON FILE. I BET PEOPLE ON SSI WILL BE PAID BEFORE US BECAUSE THEY ARE ELIGIBLE TO USE THAT NON FILER SITE SO THEY WILL PROBABLY GET PAID THIS MONTH AND SSDI WILL BE PAID NEXT MONTH NO MATTER IF YOUR HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT, DIRECT EXPRESS OR ANYTHINIG ELSE AS A MEANS TO RECIEVE THE MONEY. THE BOTTOM LINE IS PEOPLE ON SSDI JUST ARENT A PRIORITY AND WE WILL B PAID LAST. NOT ON FRIDAY. WE WILLBE LUCKY IF ALL THE PEOPLE ON SUPPLEMENTAL SUPPORT INCOME LEAVE US ANY MONEY AT ALL BECAUSE THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO WILL BE PAID ON THE 17TH – 24TH WATCH. ALL US SUCKERS WHO WORKED AND PAID INTO THE SYSTEM UNTIL OUR BODIES BROKE DOWN WILL JUST HAVE TO SUCK IT UP AND PULL OUR SELVES UP BY OUR BOOT STRAPS LIKE WE ALWAYS HAVE. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

I receives RSDI, would I still need to complete the form?

    • V.V.

Thank you for your question, Andre. Economic impact payments will be made to eligible people who receive Social Security retirement, disability, or survivors benefits. The IRS will use the SSA-1099 information that we provide them to automatically generate $1,200 economic impact payments to eligible Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. Please visit http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus to learn more.

I just got $2400, but it says that I could get an extra $500 per child (I have a 17 and a college 20-year-old). What can I do, if anything?

    • Anthony L.

You don’t do anything…only those kids under the age of 17 qualify for the additional $500…

    • V.V.

Hi Sergio, thank you for your question. People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who didnot file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment. By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about you and your qualifying children, will receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to your $1,200 individual payment. If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide information to the IRS soon, you will have to wait to receive $500 per qualifying child.

This is Kayla McMahan check to see I get stimulus check I get my social security check in NetSpend card when I get stimulus check put my NetSpend card

  7. Norma O.

Thats why I won’t use that. Once you put your name and info in, if it shows not in system, it screws it up and when it is time to send our checks you won’t get it.

  8. april

i think its saying that cus we will be the next bunch that checks get sent out i believe on fri 17 we would be able to check or hopefully our money is in there its so stupid the way they r doing this

  9. Gerald h.

I literally do not get it
    SSDI no kids
Is the app broke or not correct

We can’t call or ask questions cause no one wants to answer them ???

    • Dalia

I did the same thing and got the same message but I am eligible because of SSDI! Looks like the payment status is for the tax filers!!

      • Victoria

        That’s what I’m thinking ?

      • Gerald

        I really hope it is
It doesn’t make sense if you and I are on the same disability thing getting the same results

I wish the IRS and Social Security would help us out more. I understand the phone issue and no one can talk.

But don’t leave an entire group in the dark just cause we didn’t need to file

  10. Elizabeth

I went on the get my payment also and it stated that not enough information to determine if I’m eligible to get the payment. I’m on social security disability sand have a direct express card. Nothing on my card. Direct Express has not updated since March 30. When you call stated they have no information on the stimulus payment. I’m just going to wait and see. At this point I’m thinking I’m not getting it.
