Tried to apply for retirement today.
My Social Security login, kicked me out, said I already had one! Ok, may be so, I applied for Medicare a year ago but had no memory of username or password.
Went to menu and and clicked on “forgot username”, entered my social sec # and age, etc, the Social Security system then KICKED ME OUT, said, can’t verify info and said try again in 24 hours! WHAT!!!!
Then I find, the only hours available for “Help Desk” are 2AM – 10AM my time ! WOW, not making this easy. And of course, none of the Social Security offices are open due to “Covid 19”. When I applied for Medicare, the Social security office had all sealed booths, with bullet proof plexiglass. Why can’t you stay open and use the same mask and gloves I do?
My minimum expectation of the government is, IT is SUPPOSED TO BE OPEN and AT WORK, even if the rest of us are locked up at home.
Finally, why is the Call Back system disengaged? I would be happy to wait by the phone.
Lets, see if your system accepts my email and and my name.

Good morning, I am trying to set up an account for my SSA. When I go on line it’s asking for a number that I don’t have. I’ve called several times and I’m told that they cannot help me with giving me this number. Or how do I go about obtaining this number since the office is closed due to COVID-19?
V.V.
Hi Joyce, thank you for your question. An activation code is typically provided by a Social Security representative in the local field office due to difficulties creating a my Social Security account. If you are creating an account, you click on Create an Account. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for additional details related to my Social Security.

I have received my one time reset code by mail. How do I use it? Is it a temporary password and if so I don’t think it’s working. Thank you
V.V.
Hi Marie, thanks for using our blog. If you no longer have access to the second factor (cell phone or email address) on your account, and you need to change the second factor, you then can request a reset code online. The system will mail a reset code letter to the address on file. You then enter this reset code online, after signing in with your username and password, to change the second factor associated with your information. If you forgot your password, and the password reset questions didn’t work, we can send a temporary password in some circumstances. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username or password. We hope this helps.
