Getting Two SSI Payments in One Month
Reading Time: 2 MinutesLast Updated: December 8, 2022
For most months in the year, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients get their SSI payment on the first day of the month. But when the first day of the month falls on the weekend or a Federal holiday, you receive your SSI payment on the last business day before the first day of the month. That means you may get two SSI payments in the same month.
We do this to avoid putting you at a financial disadvantage and make sure that you don’t have to wait beyond the first of the month to get your payment. It does not mean that you are receiving a duplicate payment in the previous month, so you do not need to contact us to report the second payment.
Below is an example of how this will work in January 2023. January 1, 2023 is the Federal holiday of New Year’s Day (it also happens to be a Sunday), so we will not issue your payment on January 1. Since December 31 is a Saturday—and we don’t issue a payment on a weekend—we will issue your SSI payment for the month of January on December 30, 2022. In this example, you get two SSI payments in December.
The first December payment, on December 1, is your regularly scheduled payment for December. The second December payment, on December 30, 2022, is your SSI payment for the month of January. You will not get an SSI payment in January because you received it in December.
On our website, we provide a Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments for the current and upcoming calendar year.
Securing today and tomorrow starts with being informed. Please share this information with your friends and family—and post it on social media.

I don’t understand the payout schedule but it says 2 check will be paid to SSDI recipients do I qualify,? Can I apply for SSI ,having SSDI? Am I entitled to divorce spouse benefits? Its difficult for me to go into a office because I am homebound at the present time and the phone leaves you on hold and never comes back.

I have been a trainee in the program for students who want to be involved into the social service and I have made research about this Supplemental Security Income for my college report. Expert from https://studyclerk.com/essay-maker gathered a lot of useful info and I know that many people could not receive payments twice just because they are not able to proceed with the organizational moments.

I was suppose to get may march 3rd never came I heard there some changes I was getting my check for the pas 10 years at same date the 3rd of every month now I dint get nothing please help

Hi, Harry. Thanks for visiting our blog. Our payment schedule has not changed. For most Social Security benefits, payment dates are based on your birthdate. We issue Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments at the beginning of the month. Check out our blog, What Day of the Month Do I Get my Social Security Payment, for more information. If you do not receive your electronic payment on the scheduled pay date, please contact your bank or financial institution first. If you still need to report a late, missing, or stolen Social Security payment, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions. Thanks!

Last year, S.S. changed my payment date from 4th Wednesday (tied to my birthdate) to the 3rd of the month. It has been running smoothly.
However, I just found out my March payment arrived a day early, and there aren’t any holidays (and the 3rd is not a weekend) that apply.
I see this as something I should question, since it is unusual.

Are we get two checks next month

Is it true or False that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Schedule: Recipients To Receive Two Benefit Checks in March 2023?
Kimberly M.
I can get two checks in December in January okay now
Saul d.
How did you do it?
Dana z.
How old do you have to be?
GM K.
Okay, I would like a clear explanation please. I initiated a retirement benefits application in October 2022 to receive benefits starting 1 January 2023. My expectation is that for the 2023 calendar year, I would receive 12 checks/deposits. Setting aside what seems like some incompetence in handling my app, I have been told that my payments won’t begin until the 3rd week in February 2023 due to my birthdate. However, what I was told is that I would only receive 11 payments. The Feb check is supposedly for January. That means I will be short for the calendar year 2023. Why? Please illuminate.
A.C.
Hi, GM. Thanks for your question. Retirement benefits are paid the month after they are due. So, for instance, if you want your benefits to begin with the month of January, you will receive your first payment in February. Your December payment will be paid in January. The exact payment date is determined by your date of birth. For more information, please visit here. If you have additional questions, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

From what I see on the Schedule there will 2 checks each month . Is this true. Will our checks be the same amount or will they go down?
Melissa S.
What about those who are getting over 4000 if they have retirement this month? Tax payers are getting extra and breaks and now the social security retirement receivers are getting a check. Plus those with Medicare get so many more benefits along with usual. Well what about those who receive S.S.I payments? They are left completely out of any type of extra benefits or economic payments since the first initial stimulus payments. Why is it that those who already receive more than those on SSI, well those who have more income no matter where it comes from ,they get even more and SSI recipients receive nothing more and left to continue to struggle as prices keep rising on them just as they are on th he rest of the world.? Why?
