" "Tax season is approaching, and we have made replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement, also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S, is a tax form we mail each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from us in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on your tax return.

If you live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and get an instant, printable replacement form using your personal my Social Security account. A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you can log in to your account to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document to your computer or email it to yourself. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating one is very easy to do and usually takes less than 10 minutes.

If you’re a non-citizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S in the mail. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

With a personal my Social Security account, you can do much of your business with us online. If you receive benefits or have Medicare, your personal my Social Security account is also the best way to:

  • Request a replacement Social Security number card (in most states and the District of Columbia).
  • Get your benefit verification letter.
  • Check your benefit and payment information.
  • Change your address and phone number.
  • Change your direct deposit information.
  • Request a replacement Medicare card.
  • Report your wages if you work and receive Social Security disability insurance or SSI benefits.

I am the executor of an estate. I need the statement of benefits for 2019 to prepare a tax return for the decedent. I can’t seem to get any help on the website. I put in a change of address with USPS which is working, but I don’t seem to have received the SSA 1099.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Joseph. We are sorry to hear about your loss. The SSA-1099 is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If you did not receive the benefit statement, the executor will need to go into the local Social Security office with proof of death and proof of executorship. An SSA-1099 can also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased. If you need more information, call our toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) and ask a representative for assistance. We hope this helps.

  10. Doyle M.

    Good morning,
My father George Mosher, 551 Mohegan, Birmingham, Mich. 48009, has not received his 2019 Benefits Statement in the mail yet. Can you resend or contact me about getting this.
    Thanks,
    Doyle Mosher (son and POA)

    • Ann C.

Hi, Doyle. Thank you for your question. Because of privacy and security concerns, Social Security cannot speak to your brother about your father’s benefits. If your father is not capable of managing and directing her Social Security benefits, someone should consider applying to be her representative payee. Even though you are power of attorney, you, or someone else, would still need to apply to serve as his payee. To learn more about becoming a representative payee, you can read our publication, A Guide for Representative Payees. You can also call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) to request an appointment. We hope this information helps.
