Reading Time: 2 MinutesLast Updated: November 3, 2023
Tax season is approaching, and Social Security has made replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you can get a copy of your 1099 anytime and anywhere you want using our online services.
A Social Security 1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on your tax return.
If you live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form through your personal my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a my Social Security account, you can log in to your online account to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop or even email it. If you don’t have a my Social Security account, creating one is very easy to do and usually takes less than 10 minutes.
If you receive benefits or have Medicare, your my Social Security account is also the best way to:
- Get your benefit verification letter;
- Check your benefit and payment information;
- Change your address and phone number;
- Change your direct deposit information;
- Request a replacement Medicare card; or
- Report your wages if you work and receive Social Security disability insurance or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S in the mail. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Where is January 2021 benefit payment

Where do you put in the reset code??? All is has is an authorization button, NOT IT. and sign in. The reset code the SS office sends is NOT the password to be reset cause that wont work either. Have been trying for months, with no help from them. SO where do you enter the reset code??
V.V.
Hi Dakoda, thanks for using our blog. If you no longer have access to the second factor (cell phone or email address) on your account, and you need to change the second factor, you then can request a reset code online. The system will mail a reset code letter to the address on file. You then enter this reset code online, after signing in with your username and password, to change the second factor associated with your information. If you forgot your password, and the password reset questions didn’t work, we can send a temporary password in some circumstances. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username or password. We hope this helps.

I have 39 units, can my wife give me one of her units?
thanks

Hi Richard, thanks for using our blog. If you’re referring to credits, you cannot get more credits by someone donating them or voluntarily contributing money to Social Security. You can earn credits only by working in a job or your own business that is covered under Social Security. Thanks!

I need proof of my birthdate from Social Security. The state of Arizona has my birth certificate as 09/28/1957, which I had to use to update my drivers license. Everything I have sent them has not been good enough to prove to them that my birth date is 09/27/1957. This is the birth date I have used my whole life. They will accept proof from SS as to what you have as a birth date.

Hi Yolanda, thanks for using our blog. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to get a benefit verification letter. This letter is sometimes called a budget letter, a benefits letter, a proof of income letter or a proof of award letter. In addition to name, date of birth, and the benefits received, the Benefit Verification letter includes other identifiers to prevent misuse and fraud.
You also may be able to request a benefit verification letter by using our automated telephone service at 1-800-772-1213. You can conduct the automated services 24 hours a day. At the prompt, indicate that you’re requesting a proof of income letter. We hope this helps.

Acquiring 2020 SSA-1099 early?
I am recently new to SSDI. I received backpay in 2019 for that year, and part of 2018.
I have not worked during 2020, and I have only received my backpayment, and 2 monthly.
Is there any way to submit and get my SSA-1099 as quickly, prior to submitting for it after Feb 1st?
