Get Your Social Security Benefit Statement (SSA-1099)

Tax season is approaching, and Social Security has made replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you can get a copy of your 1099 anytime and anywhere you want using our online services.
A Social Security 1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on your tax return.
If you live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form through your personal my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a my Social Security account, you can log in to your online account to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop or even email it. If you don’t have a my Social Security account, creating one is very easy to do and usually takes less than 10 minutes.
If you receive benefits or have Medicare, your my Social Security account is also the best way to:
- Get your benefit verification letter;
- Check your benefit and payment information;
- Change your address and phone number;
- Change your direct deposit information;
- Request a replacement Medicare card; or
- Report your wages if you work and receive Social Security disability insurance or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S in the mail. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

I am having difficulty getting my information electronically at My Social Security due to prior fraudulent activity has put a freeze/alert on my credit report. I don’t want to wait in the long lines at our local SSA office. We previously received annual SS statements. Can this be resumed if requested?

Hi, William. We are sorry you are having difficulty with your personal my Social Security account. You cannot create a my Social Security account online if you have a security freeze, fraud alert, or both on your credit report. If you do not have time to visit our office, you can ask Experian to remove the freeze or alert. Again, you can create an account without removing the security freeze or fraud alert, but you will have to visit your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

Hi, Donald. The SSA-1099 is mailed by January 31 each year. If for any reason you do not receive your SSA-1099 in the mail and are unable to print a replacement using your personal my Social Security account, you can contact your local Social Security office. They can assist with a replacement SSA-1099. Thanks.

•Call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”; or

I cannot get any of these documents online. that is why I sent a form requesting them to the SS office in Rhinelander wisconsin. I think the problem is that 2 ss# are used for my benefit… my personal ss ending in1489 and my deceased husbands ending in 2792D. when I go online, my own SS is used and of course there is no benefit used with that number. but it won’t let me use my husband number to get the 1099. i need help

I tried to get an account but was asked questions I do not know the answer to. I have no idea what credit card I took out in 20913 and why would I know that?

I am an American citizen living in Canada. I am unable to fill in my Canadian address to register for MySocial Security account in order to get my SSA -1049. When I tried to register, I made a few mistakes filling out the info so am blocked for 24 hours..Then I thought I saw that only those living in the US can have access?? I hope to avoid any further frustrations. I left my number for a call back from those who help with this..as I was unable to get through.. I was supposed to hear in 15 minutes.No word yet, that was 2hours ago.
