Tax season is approaching, and Social Security has made replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you can get a copy of your 1099 anytime and anywhere you want using our online services.

A Social Security 1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on your tax return.

If you live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form through your personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a my Social Security account, you can log in to your online account to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop or even email it. If you don’t have a my Social Security account, creating one is very easy to do and usually takes less than 10 minutes.

If you receive benefits or have Medicare, your my Social Security account is also the best way to:

  • Change your address and phone number;

My elderly mother Marie Caci, age 89 1/2did not receive her 2019 SSA-1099-SM form needed for filing taxes. She moved in June 2019. Her mail was being forwarded. However this document she did not receive. How do I get another copy.

If someone could please call me @ 978-314-1410 ASAP.
My name is Christine Graham. I am my mothers Power of Attorney and can provide documentation to you.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    • A.C.

Hi, Christine. Thank you for your question. Because of privacy and security concerns, Social Security cannot speak to you about your mother’s benefits. If your mother is not capable of managing and directing her Social Security benefits, someone should consider applying to be her representative payee. Even though you are power of attorney, you, or someone else, would still need to apply to serve as her payee. To learn more about becoming a representative payee, you can read our publication, A Guide for Representative Payees. You can also call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) to request an appointment. We hope this information helps.

I have had taxes withheld from my ss checks each month but have received no document stating the total amount withheld to file my tax return! For some reason I cannot create an online account. I live in a rural area in Alaska and cannot visit an office as I was told to do. Now what?

    • A.C.

  5. Heidelinde M.

I went to the local office in January, waited a long time, asked for my address to be changed. This is because I did not receive the form with my benefits for 2020.

Now, my husband has received his 2019 SSA-1099, but mine has not arrived.

Please make sure my address is correct:
    419 Crystal Way
    Knoxville, TN 37918

And send me the SSA 1099.
    Thank you,

    Heidelinde M. Whitaker
