Get a Replacement Social Security Tax Form Online With Ease
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: November 3, 2023
It’s that time of year again. Preparing for tax season can seem overwhelming. Some forms and paperwork might be difficult to track down. If you misplaced your Benefits Statement or haven’t received it by the end of January, we’ve made it easy to go online to get a replacement with a personal my Social Security account.
An SSA-1099, also called a Benefit Statement, is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to the more than 60 million people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits received from Social Security in the previous year so people know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on their tax return.
For noncitizens who live outside of the United States and received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we’ll send form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
If you currently live in the United States and need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, we have a way for you to get a replacement quickly and easily. Go online and get a replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.
Every worker in the United States should create a personal my Social Security account. The secure and personalized features of my Social Security are valuable tools to help Americans plan for retirement.

When will I receive my W2 form?
Can I get it on line?
A.C.
Hi, Warren. Thanks for your question. To check the status of your W-2, you should contact your employer’s human resource or personnel office. If you are referring to the SSA-1099 showing the amount of benefits paid during last year and the amount of any voluntary Federal tax withheld, you can request a replacement SSA-1099/1042S for Tax Year 2019 by visiting your personal my Social Security account. We hope this helps.

I am 80 and I will retire July 1,2020. I have part A, now need medicare
part B for my retirement papers. Can this be done on line.
If so, can you inform me of the form number so I can
print it out?
Thank You.
A.C.
Hi, Theresa. Thanks for your questions. People 65 or older with coverage under a group health plan from their own current employment have a special enrollment period. During this “special enrollment period”, they can enroll in Medicare Part B. This means that they may delay enrolling in Medicare Part B without having to wait for a general enrollment period and paying the 10 percent premium surcharge for late enrollment. The rules allow them to enroll under the following two situations:
Enroll in Medicare Part B any time while they have coverage under the group health plan based on current employment; or
Enroll in Medicare Part B during the eight-month period that begins with the month their group health coverage ends, or the month employment ends–whichever comes first.
You will need to complete to submit Form CMS-L564 and Form CMS-40B to your local office. We hope this helps.

My mother passed away Jan 2020, I am the executor, I called the toll free # and was told I can go to the local office to get her benefit statement for 2019, with death certificate and my ID I will be able to get this information. When I visited the walk in office I was told they no longer give this information out. Please advise how I can obtain this information.
A.C.
Hi, Kay. We are sorry to hear about your loss. The SSA-1099 is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If you did not receive the benefit statement, the executor will need to go into the local Social Security office with proof of death and proof of executorship. An SSA-1099 can also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased. If you need more information, call our toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) and ask a representative for assistance. We hope this helps.
