Get a Replacement Social Security Tax Form Online With Ease

It’s that time of year again. Preparing for tax season can seem overwhelming. Some forms and paperwork might be difficult to track down. If you misplaced your Benefits Statement or haven’t received it by the end of January, we’ve made it easy to go online to get a replacement with a personal my Social Security account.
An SSA-1099, also called a Benefit Statement, is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to the more than 60 million people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits received from Social Security in the previous year so people know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on their tax return.
For noncitizens who live outside of the United States and received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we’ll send form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

If you do not have access to the mail at that address, the executor will need to go into the local field office with proof of death and proof of executorship. An SSA-1099 can also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased. If you need more information, call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and ask a representative for assistance.

There needs to be clear information on how an executor, representative with Power of attorney or other qualified person may get access to information or replacement documents if the beneficiary is not capable of doing it themselves. I need a copy of my 90 year old mothers 1099 for tax purposes but am not allowed to open an account for her, or for my recently deceased father, so I can get the information I need for taxes.

Because of privacy and security concerns, you will not be able to conduct Social Security business on behalf of your mother unless you are her representative payee. Having a power of attorney, being an authorized representative, or having a joint bank account with your mother does not authorize you to access information on her Social Security record. If your mother does not have a representative payee and she is not capable of managing and directing her Social Security benefits, someone should consider applying to be her payee. If your mother is capable of managing her benefits, she may call us to request a replacement 1099.

Yesterday I tried (but twice, not three times) to log in and get a replacement for the tax form I need to send to the IRA for my Social Security. I used the correct password but was locked out. I shall try again today and hope for better luck.
