Way overdue! Now if they can just get more people answering the phone and in the offices so it doesn’t take so long to get answers in person.

760,000 Americans living abroad are having a terrible time right now due to Form 7162 (proof of life). It normally comes in May/June. This year it was finally mailed out on July 31st. Some people have received it and many haven’t. We have 60 days FROM JULY 31st to return this form! There is no updated info on how to deal with this situation AND the postal services from several countries have stopped offering mail to the US due to tariffs. Why is proving your alive not available online? ID.me and Login.gov are secure ways to access My Social Security. Doing it online is quick and safe. I did my FBAR and US taxes online. Dead people don’t file FBAR or pay taxes. I’m not dead yet. PLEASE add instructions on how to deal with the late Form 7162 issue. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

My problem is almost the opposite: after moving to a new apartment, I neglected to inform SSA of my new address. As a result, the period of forwarding mail by the German post office having expired, the proof of living form 7162 could not reach me and was returned, with the result that the payments were stopped. I managed to get a link and download the form, fill it out and mail it by snail mail to SSA. As for login.gov: I can not get into it, as they accept only 2 forms of identification-a regular, American format drivers license (the German one is different) or an ID issuedonly certain states-not even an American passport is good enough! A reform of these requirements is indicated.

I am retired living overseas and I cannot set up the new my social security account. ID.me will not upload my photos. I don’t know how to get help and my nearest SS office is located in the Philippines.

24/7 access to some features is great. When all you want is information and you log in to get the “Sorry Office Closed” sign was no fun. Thanks 👍
