Social Security has been in the customer service business for more than 81 years, and with Customer Service Week, October 3-7, at hand, it is an exciting time to share the importance of this long-standing tradition.

“My experience with SSA has always been positive.”–Edward M.

This week focuses on commitment to excellence in service. Many of you rely on us for our programs and services. While much of the assistance we give is during the most critical times in your life, it is our belief that with every interaction with us you deserve professional, courteous, and compassionate service.

Times have progressed from 81 years ago, when most customer-to-employee interactions were in person. Today, part of your changing needs is the convenience of quick and secure online service options to conduct your Social Security business. Whether you are home or on the go, you can visit www.socialsecurity.gov to use our many online services.  And we are committed to customer choice, so you can always come see us in the office or call us on our 800 number.

blog.ssa.gov is good, solid content. I just sent this on 6/5/2019 to a fellow student who’s been doing a little research of her own on this topic. To say thanks, he just bought me lunch! So, I should probably say: Cheers for the drink!

I would just like to know how or what time period of working is my Social Security benefits based on. ex. last quarter, total time worked, highest wages? Thank you

  8. Gwen L.

It is impossible to get ahold of social security. I have been trying for a year to solve a matter where they say they over paid me. They told me to file for a waiver which I did several times and the last time was Dec 18 2018 and now they are saying even after the waiver that I owe almost $5000 and won’t be paid again until July 2019 and act as though the waiver never existed. I call and can’t even get through to a human Where do I go and what do I do? A llawyer is too expensive for me. Where do I get an advocate do I go to the Governors office or what? I need my check it is my only income and I will lose my apartment and all my bills will be unpaid my own government is stealing from me .

    • A.C.

Hi, Gwen. We are sorry to hear about your situation. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. We ask members in our Blog community to continue to work with their local office with specific questions. You can ask to speak to a manager on your next visit or call. You can also click “Get Help” in your personal my Social Security account to “Ask a Question” or click “Talk to an Expert” for a call back. We hope this is resolved soon.

4 Feb 2019. How do I get SSA to return a call? I was supposed to be called back the week before Christmas 2018 or the week between that & New Years. Now with the shutdown problems I still have not heard from them. All I can get on the phone is that no one is available & to please call back. I keep calling but that’s all I get.

    • A.C.

Hi, Kathleen. We’re sorry that you had difficulty reaching someone by phone. Good news! You can click click “Get Help” in your personal my Social Security account to “Ask a Question”. Click “Talk to an Expert” for a call back. We hope this helps.
