Social Security has been in the customer service business for more than 81 years, and with Customer Service Week, October 3-7, at hand, it is an exciting time to share the importance of this long-standing tradition.

Today, part of your changing needs is the convenience of quick and secure online service options to conduct your Social Security business. Whether you are home or on the go, you can visit www.socialsecurity.gov to use our many online services.  And we are committed to customer choice, so you can always come see us in the office or call us on our 800 number.

I cannot find an online way to get a simple answer:
In July of 2018 I sent in a check for Medicare premium of $236.40.
As of January, 2019, I have no copy of this check
sent to my bank, indicating that I’ve paid this amount.
For my federal rax return I need this proof of medical expenditure.
I hope that you can help me.
Very truly yours, John R. Barnes

Hi John, thank you for your question. In your personal, my Social Security account, you can check your benefit and payment information. In the Payment Details section, the Payment History tab allows you to view and print your current benefit and payment information as well as historical information for the past two years.

If you are unable to create an account or encounter a problem, you may call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk” or you can contact your local Social Security office.

  2. Landrel A.

I need to chang my account to my new email address. Also password.

    • V.V.

Hi Landrel, thank you for your question. Once you sign in to your my Social Security account, you can update your email address. After inputting your username and password, you will be at the security code screen. If you receive your security code via email only, then indicate that you cannot access the options listed above and need to reset where you receive security codes. We will then send you a letter with a reset code and instructions.

See our Frequently Asked Questions web page for information on how to retrieve or change your password. If you encounter a problem, you may call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”.

My wife has just been issued her spousal visa…CR1…..we will arrive in the USA in late January. How can I find out if she has been issued her SS card?

  4. Cindy B.

I didn’t receive my card it almost 1month. What i need to do?

    • V.V.

Hi Cindy, thank you for the question; however, your inquiry could be referring to a Medicare card or a Social Security card. Typically, after we receive an application for a replacement Social Security card and verify the documents, you can expect to receive the card in the mail within 10 – 14 business days. Unfortunately, if you have not received the card by then, you need to go back into the office where you filed your application. When you go, take the documents you originally presented as evidence.

Medicare will automatically mail new Medicare cards to the address you have on file with Social Security. As long as your address is up to date, there’s nothing you need to do. If you need to update your address, you can use your personal my Social Security account.

      Visit Medicare.gov/NewCard for additional information.

  9. Irene D.

While moving I found some uncashed medicare checks for my mother Grace van Gerven. Medicare said I had to change her address. How do I do that? I’ve been on hold over 20 minutes with SS and today it said an hour. I would like to get my mother’s 3 checks sent to me as her executrix to her will. She’s passed away on 8/27/06

    • A.C.

Hi, Irene. We’re sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately, we cannot change the address on a terminated record. It might be best to call or visit your local Social Security office for further assistance. Thanks.
