Social Security has been in the customer service business for more than 81 years, and with Customer Service Week, October 3-7, at hand, it is an exciting time to share the importance of this long-standing tradition.

“My experience with SSA has always been positive.”–Edward M.

While much of the assistance we give is during the most critical times in your life, it is our belief that with every interaction with us you deserve professional, courteous, and compassionate service.

Times have progressed from 81 years ago, when most customer-to-employee interactions were in person. Today, part of your changing needs is the convenience of quick and secure online service options to conduct your Social Security business. Whether you are home or on the go, you can visit www.socialsecurity.gov to use our many online services.  And we are committed to customer choice, so you can always come see us in the office or call us on our 800 number.

I have a “my social security” account but cannot get into it because I opened it so long ago. When social security asks a question about it, like your user name I put in Virginia J Boykin, when they ask your ss# I put in my social security #, then they tell me that some of my information is incorrect and to correct it. I don’t know what to give them. Can you help me?

  6. Carol C.

Good Day, I received a phone call from # 225-230-0908 stating my social security has been suspended ? Not sure if this is a scam..

    • R.F.

Hello Carol. Social Security Administration (SSA) employees occasionally contact citizens by telephone for customer-service purposes. An SSA employee may call you in limited situations, such as if you recently filed a claim or have other Social Security business that are pending. In only a few limited special situations, usually already known to the citizen, an SSA employee may request the citizen to confirm personal information over the phone.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which receives and analyzes public complaints related to identity theft, recently reported to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) an increase in reports of suspicious phone calls from people claiming to be SSA employees.
If a person has questions about any communication—email, letter, text or phone call—that claims to be from SSA or the OIG, please contact your local Social Security office, or call Social Security’s toll-free customer service number at 1-800-772-1213, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, to verify its legitimacy (TTY number at 1-800-325-0778). Citizens may -also- report that information to the OIG at 1-800-269-0271 or online via https://oig.ssa.gov/report. Thanks!

I receive SS Retirement Benefits ‘Last week of each month. Usually on the 25th. My benefits did not come in today. What date this month will they be in?

  8. Angela C.

I had a terrible experience with the site in Orlando Florida. I am a retired Air Force vet, sent a letter in the mail from B. Roeff stating to visit the office 5520 Gatlin before 2 Oct 2018. When my number was called a presented the letter to the rep who informed me the gentleman was not at work today and to come back. Initially I didn’t hear in detail what the rep stated. I asked her to repeat, she gave me a dirty look and threw my Retiree ID card at me and repeated what she said. Her name was Corinnn at window C. On the back of her computer was “Footsteps” along with other sayings and poems. I understand if I was rude but I wasn’t I just couldn’t hear her, that’s one of my disabilities

  9. JOHN Y.

After applying for my retirement benefits I received a email from Pamela Williams. She requested I call her. I anticipated a long wait on the phone. It turned out to be totally opposite. She answered my call immediately, and was extremely nice, and helpful. I don’t usually comment, but she was excellent!

    • V.V.

Thank you, John! Your thoughts are important to us and we’re pleased when feedback is positive. We try hard to provide the best possible service to our customers and your satisfaction is our reward.

  10. Ricky K.

Maybe I can get help through this. 2 yrs ago I made a trip to SS office to have the Day of my birthdate changed back to the right day. Brought proof and it was taking care of. Now, 2 yrs later my Medicare is not covering, and I can’t make an account with Medicare as it don’t find me. So, call medicare office, they say call SS office. SS is suppose to let medicare know of changes. Birthdate of course. So, I call. Said you need to come to SS office. Not to happy I am as a make another trip with proof of Birthday. She give me a paper to show I was there. give SS 4-6 weeks. well, its been almost 6 months and SS still has not contacted Medicare of the birthday change. I’m very upset that someone is NOT DOING THEIR JOB!!!!! Medicare is not allowed to call SS to find out if there is changes in somebody, when theres a complaint as this. If I can’t get any help here!!! Does anyone else know what I can do???? This is a joke.
