Coronavirus (COVID-19): Important Information about Social Security Services
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: February 21, 2023
All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

I am hoping someone can help me, I can’t find this answer ANYWHERE. If you have a child with disabilities and the child receives SSI, but you are the representative payee (parent/me), who is temporarily unemployed due to COVID-19, but now just received the additional $600 on top of unemployment, plus the stimulus check…what do I report as my monthly income? My “regular” unemployment which is 60% of my pay, or that plus the additional $600 per week which is insane (I didn’t make that to begin with, worried about losing his medical), or all that PLUS the stimulus check? If the additional $600 per week causes him to lose SSI and medical, it is a difficult process to get approval again. I have heard the stimulus check is not counted as income and I can understand that, but this extra money is throwing me off. I may be back to work before this matters anyway, but if not, I need to know what to do. Please Help!!!!

Hi Jami, thank you for your question. Thanks for the question. You do need to report all of your income, including unearned income such as unemployment. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.
For more about reporting income, check out the online booklet, Understanding Supplemental Security Income. To report your income, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

Really people what is wrong with all of you the last few years???I I am 66 and we never acted this way in the past. Please quit listening to all the negative media and get a life,!!! I still work and husband is 80 and he wasn’t upset about the answer. Some people are just not happy unless everything is negative. Put your faith in God . Get over it !!! The answers was to the point, yes you get one and why wouldn’t you was a perfectly normal answer, he was not rude in the least. Please try to be polite, positive and have a good outlook on life.
Stop watching so many TV shows that lie to all the American people they just want everyone in line getting food. So keep being negative and you will get your socialism. Take a look that’s what it will be from now own.
I pray for all of you who are so NEGATIVE
The O.
AMEN Daphne, I couldn’t have said it better than that. Exodus 23:25
“But you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
“and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Yes just sit at your table and god will send you some food, he will also pay the bills. God does nothing, your divine creator sent out this virus. God is the virus, spreading his evil all over the world, killing millions. lmao … People.

Two Question regarding Extra Help:
1) Is SSA continuing to processing Extra Help prescription drug assistance applications during the COVID emergency?
2) Normally, there is an Extra Help re-deeming period that begins Aug/Sept for people who lost their Medicaid and have to re-qualify. Will there be any interruptions or changes to this process or timeline?
Thank you
V.V.
Hi Joseph, thank you for your question. Please visit the Social Security and Coronavirus web page which provides details regarding workload priorities right now. We will complete all applications for Retirement, Survivor, Disability, or Supplemental Security Income benefits and we encourage individuals applying for Extra Help to apply online. Please subscribe and stay up to date with the latest Social Security information on Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Are you saying that people on SSD AND SSDI will get their stimulus checks first?
V.V.
Hi Nora, thank you for using our blog. Treasury, not Social Security, will make these payments. We do not have information about the schedule for these payments. The IRS will provide additional information at http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus.

That Depends …. (Speaking of Adult Diapers) Steve Munchkin at Trumps daily briefing (13 April) that Social Security recipiants will have to do nothing, The Money will be deoposited as early as Wendesday in the same account that you get your funds at your banks or a check will be sent to the address that you get the money every month. If you do not get the money then go to the Dept. of Treasurys Portal to enter the onfo where you want the money sent.

The dependent was claimed on another accepted tax return. You will not be able to claim this dependent.
This is what was said when I tried to add my eldest daughter who’s 13 to get the $500 stimulus.
Her father only had visitation rights the last time he saw my daughter was back in 2015 she was 8 years old he stopped seeing her on her 8th birthday she hasn’t saw him since we haven’t even heard from him since that time
How is he able to file taxes for a child that he literally hasn’t seen or let alone taken care of for 6-12 months out of a year
He was only granted visitation rights every other Friday-sunday at 6pm-6pm every
other summer vacation which he never wanted to take so she’s always literally been in my care his child support is only $152 each month but he aways has waited until tax time to pay back child support I’ve never received the full amount because he’ll sometimes pay $40 for two months next he’ll stop and wait until he gets his taxes an catch up that way
He’s had his bank account seized in the past through the court because he literally went year’s without paying anything
Now I went to file to get my child’s $500 stimulus money and I was told this “The dependent was claimed on another accepted tax return. You will not be able to claim this dependent”. But how when I am the one who has her 24/7 365 day’s a year this doesn’t seem fair at all
I receive SSI have been since I was a child
I also receive annuity payments due to almost dying from lead poisoning all I want is her $500 stimulus money he doesn’t deserve it as her dad hasn’t seen her since her 8th birthday

There are 8 billion Americans (which includes Dead people, dogs and illegals who vote Democrat) that are calling and e-mailing the Social Security and IRS, I am sure that one of them will spend time reading and answering your query.

How do I get my COVID-19 economic impact payment?
Date: April 7, 2020
The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security retirement, disability, and survivors beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The IRS will use SSA-1099 information they already have to automatically generate $1,200 economic impact payments to eligible Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.
Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.
For updates from the IRS, visit Coronavirus Tax Relief.
Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:
SSI recipients are eligible to receive the economic impact payment. We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information at Coronavirus Tax Relief when available.
Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.
We will continue to update this page as further details become available.

I’m a non-working parent of a special needs/disabled child. I’m her caregiver and she receives social security/disability payments every month. I don’t file taxes since I have no personal income. I’m wondering if I will receive the stimulus check? Or will I need to register my info with the IRS? I’ve heard it will come to our debit card that we get the social security payments on? Thanks!
Someone N.
Gosh I didn’t realize that even though everyone in America is suffering from this COVID virus that the Stimulus relief fund had…eligibilities that people who are affected equally need to meet? This is not prize money. It’s a virus affecting everyone. So please stop with that “we’re in this all together” talk because us who have to pay child support are left behind.
Sandy
I FEEL you “Someone New”, on your comment about ..”those that have CS are left out”! What happened to Equal Rights? NOT ALL people that owe CS, have the same story and typical “deadbeat dad” label. I am a (female)SSDI recipient who owes BACK CS ARREARS ONLY, by “NO FAULT OF MY OWN”. Two Reasons: 1. The “DEAD BEAT”, no working father, out of revenge and to flip the CS obligation onto me, took my child from me after stealing my rent money, causing myself and my child to be evicted. He came to visit, and while he watched her when I was out for the day, took her and all her belongings to his mother’s. I was evicted and Homeless. I met someone and stayed with him. I went to school, got my CNA License back, got a job, and a home. I later found out that my first check got garnished for CS. After calling him, I discovered that he got custody, 5 years before, through the Court System, without my knowledge.
2. When I became Disabled, from the time I applied for SSDI to receiving it, the CS obligation kept ACCRUING, because the Court’s “Justice System” kept denying a VACATE or MODIFICATION DECREASE, throughout the waiting process. The judge kept asking me if I had any money to put on the Order..yeah right..with what…the $220.00 a month I received from Welfare?
Once a person is granted SSDI, the order can be VACATED (stopped), making the BACK CS, ARREARAGES ONLY. I have been UP-TO-DATE on my payments until this epidemic.
Tell me, IS THIS “JUSTICE”? Is this “EQUAL RIGHTS”?
I tried contacting the S.S. Office, IRS, Dept. Of Treasury, the Governor, and the President, about this complaint…I got NO Response! I WON’T LET THIS GO!!!
If anyone has a suggestion, please…HELP, I would really appreciate it!! GOD BLESS ALL!!

If I’m a pre-op transgender awaiting life saving gender reassignment surgery will i be able to get any extra benefits? they’ve canceled all critical surgeries such as these and i feel i should be compensated for this extreme hardship. why do the corona-virus patients get priority over people who are really suffering like me?
The O.
Life Saving? Yes you will get something extra that the rest us do not want.
The O.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Modern Democrat Party in all it’s penile transplant glory. Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition.
Skyylar
I’m not trying to be mean but God made no mistakes when it came to creating you if you were born a girl you were meant to be just that if you were born a boy you were meant to be just that transgender comes from evilness making you think in your mind that God is a liar which he never was and never will be ask God to help you change your mind to love yourself just as God see’s you repent mean it in your heart and you’ll be saved God Bless You and he loves you deeply he just hates the sin that you are doing to yourself
Mr. J.
Skyylar, you must have prayed for me because this morning when I woke up I heard the voice of God tell me to stop the madness. I’ve stopped taking the hormone replacement therapy drugs and I’ve decided to keep my penis. Now, I am disgusted by my actions. The Trans Story Time at my library was a mistake. I’m disgusted in myself. I hope to spread the word about the evils of transgenderism. They prey on weak minded people. Thank you and God Bless!
