“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I’m on SSDI also and have the Direct Express card. If you received a 1099 in the mail a few months ago, you will get a payment. The payment will go into the same account your direct deposits go into, if no direct deposit then a check will go to the same place your Social Security checks go to. Another round of checks go out this coming week and they will keep sending checks and making direct deposits until sometime in the fall until everyone gets paid. I had posted all the dates and income levels by which these payments are being made, if you look down below all these comments on this page, on the left side, look for OLDER COMMENTS and click on that, you can read back in time at all the info and answers to almost any possible questions you all have. Also, there are no government agents sitting at a computer and monitoring everything that happens on this page, there is one woman that does on occasion answer very basic questions but she can’t possibly keep track of everything on here. Those that are making demands as though they are a dictator wont help themselves or anybody else by getting nasty. Its just a matter of when they get to YOUR INCOME LEVEL, then you will get paid. Payments are being made in order of your total income. Lowest income got paid first. Then next to lowest, then next, etc. We should all be thankful that we are getting anything at all and keep in mind that these stimulus payments were the idea of President Trump. Please read my previous posts for that payment schedule and some answers to your questions that I was able to get answers to through the government hub and other sources. Also, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THAT IRS WEBSITE, and DONT KEEP TRYING TO CHECK YOUR STATUS, if you get a check or direct deposit from social security you will get a payment when it’s your turn. That get my payment tool will not show anything except error messages until an actual payment has been processed. Once a payment is processed, it will show that info on the IRS website. Best wishes, try to be patient, it’s coming soon. 🙂

      HI George,
Hope all is well during these crazy times. I’m not sure if you would know but I figured its worth a try. I just started receiving SSI Jan 6 2020, well that was my first payment. That payment included retro from when I first applied last year. Does this mean I do or do not qualify? Like I said, not sure if you even would know but figured it would be worth trying, right? Thank you for your time. Stay warm & safe , cheerful and optimistic.
      !
