“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

My 15 year old son is on SSI. His benefits are directly deposited into his account. I claim him on my taxes. I received my $1200 but not his $500. Will his money be deposited into his account?

My husband and I both draw SSA RETIREMENT. We have custody of our 16 year old grandson. Can we file for the stimulus aid for him too. We don’t file Income Tax since retiring.

Hi S. Knipp, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. You may also find the IRS Online Tool Guide helpful to determine what action you may need to take. Hopefully this information is helpful.

Ssdi direct express card holder here I have my ssdi monthly benefits pending but still no stimulus check. This makes no sense why do they tell us all these dates and then it doesnt show up and they change it again…why? We’re in NEED of this money for ourselves and especially our littles ones and families. Why cant they be straight forward and pay us already? Anybody else fed up? Just please hurry with our money

I’m on ssi and my son is too he is 25 I’m his payee will we both get stimulus money automatically

  8. Latoya G.

If I’m on ssi and my adult son is to and I’m his payee will both of us get the stimulus package

This is so upsetting. I have been on disability for around 10 years and I have direct deposit. Social Security says to check with IRS for when we will get our check, yet IRS says info is not available. How do we know if we have been missed by a mistake and who would I talk to to fix it? This is maddening!

  10. Saars

Nope. And i found out anybody even ur neighbor can claim u

    • Mike

They’d have to have your social security number to do that. IT be kinda silly to give your neighbor such info.
