“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

good morning . I feel the same way as all of u do and have read and reread 100 articles about SSD/ SSI and others saying we don’t have to do anything if not claiming anybody. I hate that trhe IRS portal to check on the status for SD wont give me a definite date for delivery. I believe that it will be thiss Wednesday otherwise I will be getting a check based upon my financial situation now. I hope that it comes WED because I get my SSD deposit that day. what a sweet day that would be. And my bday is tomorrow 51 yrs . so I hope we al get a present this week. I will continue to pray for all of u and yours.

To all those posting questions here: Try reading through the Older Comments for answers to your questions. Click the link on this page that reads: Older Comments. I have posted the payment schedule that I found on a government hub website several times. We are all waiting for our stimulus payment, or we wouldn’t be hanging around reading all of this stuff. I don’t work for the government and I don’t get paid for trying to help others on here so please keep the nasty comments to yourself. There are no government attendant’s that sit here reading and jumping to answer every question, only one that is sometimes on during normal business hours. That being the case, it’s best to read through older comments to find answers. Click on “Older Comments” down below these posts/comments on the left side of screen.

My son is a severely autistic, adult dependent who receives SSI which is deposited into his Guardianship.
He was on my 2018 taxes as a dependent but has since reach adult age. He is still a dependent as he cannot speak, dress or be left unattended. I did not receive any dependent relief for him nor did he receive adult stimulus payment. I can find no info for parents in this situation.
    HE IS INVISIBLE as usual..

Monique: You might want to try that IRS “GET MY PAYMENT” link on the IRS website and add all your info there. I believe you have until May 5th to claim him as a dependant. Also, if you can not enter his info on that site, you may be able to get the $500 defendant stimulus on your tax return next year. Also, there are benefits available through social security if you are his caregiver. I know a few people that get a check for their adult aged defendants. For help with this you should reach out to your local social services department or to social security. You mentioned Guardianship and I’m not sure if that Guardian is you or someone else and I’m not a tax expert etc so it’s best you talk with social services and/or social security on how to start getting some financial help for him through social security. You can also contact the IRS on getting the $500 stimulus pay on his behalf. I hope you can get some help and good luck with it. 😉

Hi, Larry. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the Internal Revenue Service Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page for updates. Thanks.
