Commissioner of Social Security Shares Update about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments for Beneficiaries
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: February 21, 2023
“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.
The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.
Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.
For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.
Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:
We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

We will receive it the same Way or the same Day as we receive our benefits or both? I am seriously confused about when to expect payment. My daughter and her husband got theirs two weeks ago.

To all that are posting questions about when you will get your payment, please use the link on the left side below to go back to older comments. These questions have been answered several times already. I posted a schedule on here that lists when who gets what. I’m waiting for my payment too. (On SSDI with Direct Express) I know it’s coming, just need to be patient. 🙂

My 79 year old mother received her impact check today. It was addressed to her and my deceased father who died March 24, 2019 in the amount of $2,400. Is she eligible for this amount ? How do we verify if this is correct ? Thank You

Quick question… I’ve been on disability for sevreal years now, so I know I have to sit and wait BUT I ASSUMED like a dumb ass that cause both my sons/dependents also receive their small deposits on same direct express card, they would be waiting on it like I am!
To be clear… There are 3 seperate deposits with each one our names on them & we all three receive separate SSA tax form yearly!
So today I hear I was supposed to e file to get third, but my income is unearney???
I’m so confused

Hi Sharon, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

I am so upset. Why am I not getting a check?. I automatically qualified but I didn’t get one because I was claimed on 2019 taxes by my partner. Because of this I don’t get a check? So he should’ve got the 500.00 for me right? Nope he didn’t . So I guess I’m just corona exempt? I cease to be affected by all of this huh? I don’t have to pick over the last overpriced supplies left on shelves I get special backdoor privileges? This is so messed up.
Aaaaaaaaa
Its 1200 not 500
