“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I have been told to “do nothing C this entire time now I worry that I will have to wait for a check and I have moved several times and have no idea what address it may go to IF it goes in the mail! Was under the impression it would get deposited by may 13th in the same acct I get my ssdi. That did not happen. The get my payment tool also useless .Tried to go ahead and use the non filers tool to enter info-the “submit” icon on the last page was off screen and it froze then kicked me off. Anyone please? A date an address something?

Thanks Vonda but the IRS hotline is nothing more than a computer generated voice message system. I thought I would be able to get an update or speak to someone live. I learned nothing I didn’t already know.
There anything else you can do?

Thank you Vonda, but I thought when you gave me a phone number to call
1-800 919-9835 I got excited. I soon realized it was nothing but a computer generated voice message system. I thought I would be speaking to someone live. I learned nothing I didn’t already know from previous readings
    (frequently asked questions etc.).

I have called an called I recieve SSI and still no answer and no help.

        • Robert

I called the IRS on the 21st and waited 40 mins to speak with an IRS agent to only find out they have no way to verify me due to their computer systems. I gave them my social#, full name, address, etc. So much for the IRS helping!

  10. Michael M.

I clearly understand that payments are made by IRS and NOT by Social Security.
There’s nowhere on the IRS website to leave a comment in regards to stimulus payments.
Daily use of the ‘Get my payment‘ tool replies:
    PAYMENT STATUS NOT AVAILABLE
I am clearly eligible for an EIP payment because of the monthly Social Security retirement direct deposit and receipt of 2019 SSA-1099. IRS has instructed SSA beneficiaries in this category to do nothing.
Any help or assistance you can give is most appreciated.
