woman on laptopIn December, Social Security will launch a new service for my Social Security account holders where the public can check on the status of an application for benefits or an appeal filed with us.

The service will provide detailed information about retirement, disability, survivors, Medicare, and Supplemental Security Income claims and appeals filed either online on our website or with a Social Security employee.

The ability to check your application status will be available online to everyone who has or opens a secure personal my Social Security account. You can open an account on our website.

The service will provide important information about your claim or appeal, including, as appropriate:

  • Date of filing.
  • Current claim location.
  • Scheduled hearing date and time.
  • Incomplete applications.
  • Servicing office location.
  • Claim or appeal decision.

If you are unable to open a personal my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.

Providing our customers with more claim status information helps us meet our goal of delivering innovative, quality services to you and helping secure today and tomorrow.

Was told 7 to 10 days and I would start recieving my benefits. That has also come and gone. I am not employed, I have no family to help me out. I have bills like rent utilities food. I have no income. I dont know what to do. I am dilegently looking for employment I got through the 30 days barely . If my benefits dont start real soon i wont have a place to live. My landlord wants his rent and a letter proving my status is not cash. Somebody help me please. I know there are those worse off than I, i need these benefits badly. I am terrrified of what is going to happen

I filed an appeal on 31 July 2017, 7 days after I received my benefits letter, and it never showed up on my social security account page. Went back to the local office in Montgomery Alabama the last week in September 2018 to check status and was told it was still pending. I got a letter on 10 January 2019 stating that my appeal was not received until 28 November 2018 and would not be considered. I took my appeal (which had been dated and initialed on 31 July 2018) back to the local office on 15 January 2019 and they could not explain why my appeal was not considered within the 60 day window. They stated that they would resubmit. One week later, the appeal still is not showing up on the my social security page.

I was told by Decatur, IL lady at Soc Security to check this site 5 days after our phone interview to see status of my claim. My husband is 70 and just applieid for Soc Security. I cannot find the link she advised me to choose. Have questions for her/you and corrections. I will try to use a telephone conversation tomorrow.

So where is this “New” Coming Soon: Improved Check Your Application or Appeal Status Service?” This article is from 2016 and it’s now the middle of January 2019. I have an appeal pending and was excited to be able to check the status online, but it doesn’t exist and I had to go through the grind of calling a SS representative instead. What happened?

    • A.C.

Hi, Carol. Once you file an appeal, you can always check the status in your personal my Social Security account. We hope this helps.

  10. Charlotte P.

Hello, My name is Charlotte. Me and my kids have recently received our green cards. When we were filling up the form DS 260 before, we applied for social security number and I would like to know about the status of it. I called the number given by this website, unfortunately it didn’t help me get the information I needed. Please let me know what information you need on my side so I can provide it.
Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

    • A.C.

Hi, Charlotte. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. If you applied for a Social Security card and have not received it, you will need to contact the local Social Security office where you applied to check the status. You’ll need to bring all of the original documents that you provided to us. We cannot help you with this over the phone. We hope this is resolved soon.
