  1. i still have my old social security card but i did not know then (39 years ago) that it should not be laminated, do i need a replacement card ?

    • Hi Angelito. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, we have good news! You may be eligible to apply for a replacement Social Security card online. We hope this helps.

  2. How do I know if I have already have an account. Tried going online to create one and had such with applying a password that I got very frustrated and just stopped trying.

  3. Ok so i’m a California resident, I created an online account to order a replacement SSN card but when I click on the link for “Social Security Card Replacement” I get a message saying, “We’re sorry. We cannot process your request.” and “You cannot request a replacement card online.” Without any additional information. What gives? Your site clearly states that California residents can apply for a replacement card online.

    • Hi, John. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. We ask that members in our Blog community work with our offices with specific questions. You can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. Generally, you will have a shorter wait if you call later in the day. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

  4. I arrived in USA March 9th, as a green card holder, US Permanent rezident.
Received Permanent Rezident card by mail but never received SS number card by mail, as it supposed to since applied at the same time applied for the permanent rezident.
It has been three month, can not get a job, a DL or medical insurance without SS number.
Please someone help, who knows for how long your office will be closed.
I called SS office and they told me they can’t do anything, have to wait for the office to open and go there in person.
Can I drop off the application and supporting documents in the mail box at your office, or somehow to apply by mail or online? Or to make an in person appointment?
