Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information.

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month; a specific date will be available soon.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200. People would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Action Needed for Social Security Beneficiaries with Dependents and Who Do Not File Tax Returns to Receive $500 Per Child Payment

People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’s website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information as they will not receive automatic payments from Treasury.

Can you PLEASE give me the actual date that a person on Social Security Disability will receive the stimulus on their account !

    • Renee R.

I have read that people on SSI/ disability will get stimulous the last week of April.

    • A.C.

Hi, Andrea. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the Internal Revenue Service Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page for updates. Thanks.

Why should people with no dependes have to wait till last to receive their stimulus checks last we have bills to pay and don’t even make enough to have to file taxes.I have paid taxes all my life and now I don’t have to, so what’s fair about this

    • Dorothy N.

You are right, everyone I know that is retired got there check but me. I filed a 2018 tax return but do not get any refund , so irs didn’t have a routing #, they have my ssa routing #. The poor people are last getting money.

      • Dorothy

All the people I know do not have kids, they are all retired older people and got a check but me. My bank routing # was not on tax form because no refund very low income. Parents with kids should get there cash first always. No doubt about that ever.

        • Dorothy

Low income older people need to eat better too and with there check they can eat better and help others with kids in there family to eat better.

    • C.

Because kids come first! ???? simple really. We all have bills but ill be damned if my kid goes without eating.

      • jess

yeah I am waiting and annoyed to. But agree about the kids. I could down to my last pack of ramen and if some kid came to my door hungry, they’d get it.

  5. Terry L.

I did file our 2019 tax but we had no refund I get Social Security Disability And my wife gets Social Security Retirement what do I need to do to get the check deposited in to our bank account ???

    • B.Lopez

From what I understand, the Treasury department will work with the Social Security office to get a list of names along with their direct deposit information. Anyone receiving any payments from the Social Security Administration will automatically receive the Covid-19 supplemental payment. No need to do anything unless you have changed your bank and direct deposit recently.

    Hello..

I filed my tax return for 2018 but have not filed my tax return for 2019 yet. I have been receiving SS retirement check deposited to my bank account since 2016. Am I still considered Non-Filers and need to provide my bank information..?

  7. Randi

Will the stimulus check show up on our ( my social security ) site as pending or will just go straight from treasury to direct express card?

  8. Vicki L.

This notice covers people that did not file 2018/2019 taxes, but what about people that did, but had to pay so didn’t include a bank account number on their form? The IRS My Payment App does nothing but give you a Payment Status Not Available reply. How can I find out if/when I will receive my stimulus check?

    • A.C.

Hi, Vicki. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. This does not address my situation because I did file a 2018 and 2019 tax return, but did not provide bank routing info because in 2018 I did not qualify for a refund (and owed no tax) and in 2019 I paid additional tax. When will I get my stimulus ?

Both my wife and I are receiving social security with payments made directly into our bank account,

    • Becca

Yu should receive your stimulus directly into the same account you receive your regular monthly payment.

    • Clarice

You should get it before the end of April as a direct deposit in your bank account.

    • A.C.

    • Dorothy

Myy husband and I were divorced in September, 2019. We filed jointly in 208 but not 2019.. I am 77 years old and have had my Soc. Sec.. Bank drafted for 2 years as we were separated. Do I have to fill out form as my income is way below the poverty level or do I send bank info now? If mine is sent with his I may never get it!. He is a “NARCISSIST and lies about everything!
