Stephen Evangelista Appointed Social Security’s Deputy Commissioner for Operations
Reading Time: 2 MinutesLast Updated: April 25, 2025
The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced today the appointment of Stephen Evangelista as the Deputy Commissioner for the Office of Operations. In this role, he will oversee SSA’s nationwide network of offices that provide frontline and support services to millions of customers each year. This includes oversight of more than 1,200 field offices serving communities across the country, as well as 23 teleservice centers assisting the public on the phone.
Stephen Evangelista has over 25 years of experience in executive leadership roles at SSA. He has held various leadership positions within the agency, most recently serving as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Policy in the Office of Law and Policy. His record of achievement includes developing and implementing an enterprise strategy to unify SSA’s more than 3,000 data matching agreements, resulting in improved program administration.
“Stephen’s proven track record of leadership and his dedication to public service make him an excellent choice for this critical role,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “His deep knowledge of the agency’s programs will be an asset as we continue to improve customer service while safeguarding Americans’ hard-earned benefits.”
Stephen Evangelista succeeds Doris Diaz, who had been serving as the agency’s Acting Deputy Commissioner for the Office of Operations since January 2025. Under her leadership, SSA implemented several customer-focused improvements, including expediting over $14.8 billion in retroactive payments to more than 2.2 million individuals under the Social Security Fairness Act.
“I am grateful to Doris for her outstanding leadership of the Office of Operations,” added Dudek. “She delivered transformational improvements in the agency’s operations, and millions of Americans’ lives are better because of her service.”

Welcome to the job!
Please add to the top of your priority action list to stress the importance of due process. I am not a beneficiary nor have I ever received money from you to my account. Your seattle office did not send me an order, failing to provide me with my right to due process. I went to use my card and all my money was gone. You are copied on a formal complaint letter and demand Dow immediate return of my funds. Failure to comply will result immediate commencement of legal action. I am also cc’ing investigative outlets like Pro Pública on this letter and seeking possible class participants. I look forward to your team taking swift action to cure the multiple violations of my rights! And immediately returning said funda to my account.
Welcome to your new PUBLIC SERVICE role at the SSA!

How come I cannot find my comment just posted??

If anyone has issues or experience problems with the Social Security system getting or asking about your benefits, please write to your local representative to bring your concerns to lobby for The White House Votes. Those Reps are who you vote for as a democracy. Also, write your similar words to the US Treasurer instead of using just this website only to voice your concerns that area that are going nowhere.

Congrats! Asan insider you know how poorly staffed our offices are! Please reconsider going back to 10 Regional Offices with an appropriate amount of staff. Also tell Dudek to resign he has been a worthless cog, he has no real experience in actual SSA processes and has no clue what an SSA employee actually does! The RO’s Support the field and the field needs everyone’s support now!! It’s a shame Dudek’s only interest is kissing A$$ instead of standing up for what is right!!@

Hello & Good Luck with your new position. You were a fine part of my high school years at Burrillville, Mr. Evangelista. Happy to see you’re doing well.

Please have doge look into fraudulent disability claims, I have lots of people I know on disability, working, riding motorcycles, cutting wood. It is just because they are too lazy to work. Investigate them or is that to much trouble, you just pay them instead anyway. I would guess that 90 of these people are frauds. I lost a lot of personal friends and family, because they are on disability and I know there is nothing wrong with them. I am not going to have anything to do with a sorry ass lazy person

.065 is fraudulent in social security. Why not look into why we pay over $3 million evey weekend Trump goes golfing

You must have not been a friend in the first place. Are you a doctor? Do you have a PHD? Or just a hater who wants everyone else to suffer like you seem to be outraged! Let the system determine those in need of disability benefits not you!
This is the problem out here. Businessman or women need to attend to that, not to Judge or bear false witness against thy neighbor. Destroy Destroyers. What if you become disabled but no one believes you. Karma happens.
The next thing that happens is Freedom of Speech disappears because you don’t like what others have to say but you say whatever’s in your head, heart. or mind. “Lazy Ass Person”. Every person may not be as strong as the next. This is not good! It’s evil 😈 Don’t get mad at a comment! Learn from it. Know where people stand.

Well, like a LOT of others, Doris didn’t last long.
Is this a part time position? With all the closures, it shouldn’t take up much of Mr. Evangelista’s time.
