Have you ever received a Social Security Statement in the mail? I have tried many different ways. i continue to get messages saying either that i may apply for an account, or you already have an account, and bounce me back and forth. I will be 65 on April 7th 2018 but I won’t actually retire until April 1 2019 is there anything I need to do now?

Hello Connie! Individuals within three months of age 65 or older and not ready to start their monthly cash benefits can use our online retirement application to sign up for Medicare ONLY and apply for their retirement benefits at a later date.
Our Medicare web page explains that since you must pay a premium for Part B coverage, and in your case, continuing to work and have medical insurance coverage under a group health plan based on your current employment, you may not need to apply for Medicare Part B at age 65, you have the option of turning it down. However, we suggest that individuals speak to their health benefits advisor, or health plan representative to see what’s best for them, and to prevent any penalties or delayed enrollment in the future.
