Update on Our Reentry Plans
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: December 22, 2021
We want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.
You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.
The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.
We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

I have called my local office and left messages since October and no one ever returns my calls. But I get a letter saying I owe them and payment must be made in 7 days. Extremely frustrating since we are on a fixed income and have been working to get by since we were denied due to them not responding to my messages asking for help.
Pounce
Hi Elvira, Make sure you request a waiver of the overpayment if you did not cause the overpayment. The waiver may be granted if you are not at fault in causing it and you don’t have the money to pay it back. Keep screenshots of your post and a record of all the attempts to get in touch with SSA on this matter. The letter should say what to do if you disagree with the amount, follow the letter, file an appeal on time if need be.

Hi, Elvira. We are sorry to hear about your experience. Please continue to work with your local office. You can ask to speak to a manager on your next call. You can also submit feedback by visiting our Contact Social Security page. Once there, select the “Email Us” link. This will take you to the “Email A Question to our Support Team” form where you can complete and submit a compliment, complaint, or suggestion. We hope this helps.

Really rude service from Ron Robertson in the State of Maryland offices. Did not answer questions, kept me on hold for over 60 minutes. Previous discussion with an agent in the Richmond CA office, told me that I would receive a check two weeks ago. Applied for benefits back on November 2, 2021. The website says it will take 2 to 4 weeks to get benefits, I am now waiting for 10 weeks.

These people took almost 1500 dollars from me for a DATA ENTRY ERROR that was 100% their mistake. I appealed the error The end of May 2021, almost 8 months ago. They have stonewalled me ever since. I have called over 30 times, been called stupid, told I don’t get it, been hung up on, been told my case was in the payment center since July, and they still won’t give me my money. I have been told that it should have been resolved before even having to request reconsideration and a Supervisor would contact me within days. It has supposedly been sent to supervisors to call me many times but I have never had a call to resolve this…ever.
Pounce
Don, Hang in there. If your case is still pending, make sure you make you appeals on time. Second, make sure that you request a waiver of the overpayment of $1500 for the reasons you stated here. If you were not at fault in the overpayment you should have grounds for waiver of the overpayment.

feeling uncomfortable sending my passport and original birth certificate to SSI administration office through US post. If these get lost it will cost me a pretty penny to replace not to mention time and effort. Tried calling contact in letter, left three voicemails on three different days and no return calls.
I want to personally delivery the documents and get them back.
Pounce
Try taking it to a notary and creating a certified true copy. Send in that. Anything going in the USPS is risky biz these days. Also, if must send it USPS send it certified mail with return receipt.

Hi, Stan. We are sorry to hear about your experience. Please continue to work with your local office. We hope this is resolved soon.

Does anyone from the Social Security Administration actually check these comments and provide an answer?
John D.
I don’t think so. I tax dollars obviously working great. Imagine wanting to give the government more control over more aspects of our lives, thinking it will be done well..
Cin W.
I need to apply for SSA since I just got my OPT EAD. Normally it’s just a visit to the office but the office is closed. When I made the phone call the first time, they tell me “no appointments available, call next week”. A week later, I called again. Guess what? Line busy…… again and again, the line is always busy.
I cannot imagine those who need more urgent services are going through.
Cin W.
OK, the line is not busy anymore now.
HOWEVER, after waiting in line for 24 minutes, the system hangs up on me and ask me to make the call again later……
Is it creating an infinite loop of waiting?
I sincerely suggest the SSA to expend the phone service capacity if you don’t want to reopen your offices.
Cin W.
I have been calling and waiting for 4 hours…… Never ever get through.
What are the representatives doing?
