The IRS has extended its deadline to September 30, 2020 to provide information to the IRS using its IRS’ Non-Filer Tool if you:

  • Receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability benefits, or SSI payments.
  • Did not file a 2019 or 2018 tax return.
  • Have a qualifying child under age 17.
  • You did not already enter information in the IRS’ Non-Filer Tool for you and at least one child.

If you already entered information in the IRS’ Non-Filer Tool before and even after the IRS’ previously announced deadlines (April 22 if you receive Social Security; May 5 if you receive SSI), you do not need to do anything. The IRS will automatically make a payment in October based on the information you provided them.

Please read the IRS’ August 14 press release for more details.

My uncle has been diagnosed as legally blind by his eye doctor. He is already receiving SS pension. Is there any other benefit he can receive due to his disability (being legally blind). He is 88 years old, lives alone in a private residence.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Maria. We are sorry to hear about your uncle’s condition. We pay disability benefits to people under their full retirement age who are unable to work because of a medical condition that is expected to last one year or more or end in death. Once people reach full retirement age, we pay them their retirement benefits. We hope this helps.

I wonder if SS is aware of foreign national millionaires who claim SSI in the US? To crack down these people would be a good step to fix this country.

I presently receive social security retirement and unemployment benefits and I also received the COVID-19 benefits that just ended the end of July, so do I have to re-apply for the $ 500.00 benefit coming in October or will this automatically be added?

Even both I & my partner did not receive the 1st economic impact payment.
The IRS is missing the information how to request it for those people who did not receive yet.

What a farce! I know people on Social Security and never received a stimulus check, including myself. I know people who don’t file taxes because they are in college and filled out the non filer form and received nothing(this was in March) My son! I know someone who files tax returns every year and did not get a stimulus check, my daughter. The IRS is so messed up and can’t handle getting my entire family even one check. I have called for each of them many times and no answer. There must be someone who can help. I am on SS disability and received nothing because the IRS cannot process my tax returns(their excuse).

    • MK N.

Same things. I and my partner did not receive the 1st stimulus check yet. IRS does not give enough information for those people who did not receive the 1st check how you can claim and when.
But they are talking about the 2nd check. How come??
Even my partner did not get tax refund yet even he filled on April.
As you told, IRS is messed up. I don’t know whom I can ask. I called to IRS 2 months ago and the CS told you will get it by end of this year if you did not receive yet. Means by 12/31/2020?
