Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

    • Rachael

I have a family member that does taxes I am on disability also and she said they would be putting our
stimulus checks on our money cards on the 1st r 2nd of May with our regular checks that we get our checks from

    • Rachael

Yes, you will. You will get your stimulus the same way you get your SSI benefits. The Treasury announced that all Social Security and SSI recipients will receive automatic payments by direct deposit into their bank accounts, onto their Direct Express cards on May 1st r May 2nd.

  2. Peggy

I GET SSI ON MY DIRECT EXPRESS CARD . I HAVE NO BANK ACCOUNT . WILL I GET MY STIMULUS PAYMENT ON MY DIRECT EXPRESS CARD ?

    • Bryan T.

Yes, you will. You will get your stimulus the same way you get your SSI benefits. The Treasury announced that all Social Security and SSI recipients will receive automatic payments by direct deposit into their bank accounts, onto their Direct Express cards or by mailed check. Whichever way you receive your benefits is how you will get your stimulus payment.

    • V.V.

Hi Peggy, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

Just a quick heads up- this just dropped via Forbes and KWCH.

WASHINGTON (FORBES/KWCH) Forbes has released a schedule for when Americans can expect to receive their economic impact checks.

On Monday (April 20), the Internal Revenue Service issued a special alert of federal-benefit recipients who didn’t file a tax return in 2018 or 2019.

The IRS says $1,200 payments will soon be issued to those receiving Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries who didn’t file a tax return in the last two years. For benefit recipients with children who aren’t required to file a tax return, an extra step is needed to quickly add $500 per eligible child onto their automatic payment of $1,200. The deadline to take that action is Wednesday (April 22), the IRS says.

Taxpayers who have the lowest annual adjusted gross income as reported on their 2018 or 2019 tax return will receive their checks first. Here is the planned weekly schedule (week-ending dates):

      • Less than $10,000: April 24
      • $10,001 – $20,000: May 1
      • $20,001 – $30,000: May 8
      • $30,001 – $40,000: May 15
      • $40,001 – $50,000: May 22
      • $50,001 – $60,000: May 29
      • $60,001 – $70,000: June 5
      • $70,001 – $80,000: June 12
      • $80,001 – $90,000: June 19
      • $90,001 – $100,000: June 26
      • $100,001 – $110,000: July 3
      • $110,001 – $120,000: July 10
      • $120,001 – $130,000: July 17
      • $130,001- $140,000: July 24
      • $140,001 – $150,000: July 31
      • $150,001 – $160,000: August 7
      • $160,001 – $170,000: August 14
      • $170,001 – $180,000: August 21
      • $180,001 – $190,000: August 28
      • $190,001 – $198,000: September 4
      • Remaining checks: September 11

I recieved SSD and do not make enough to even file a return. I am raising 2 small children ( Nephew, 8yrs old and Niece, 6yrs old) have legal custody of them. I did go on line with the IRS and fill out the “Non-filer” form do to having them. I did this on or about the 11th of April. But as of today (Apr. 23rd) I am still getting the message ” we are unable to determine….etc.” Why if I did what I was supposed to, have I not received my deposit yet?

    • Curtis S.

They’re sending out checks each week. It takes them awhile to get to everyone who is due a check. Yours will be coming up. It may be with the next regularly scheduled Social Security deposit you receive.

    • Kelly L.

I am on Said disabled Social security. I have a 16 year old I get allotted for with my SS payments. Will she be automatically on my impact payment for $500 additionally

      • Kimberly

No. You need to go to its.gov and click on the NONFILERS tab so you can get the additional $500 for each child. If you don’t you will be able to claim a credit on next year’s taxes

    • Sam

The back up is bad but they Will get to you hang in the best you can have a blessed day ?

      • Gene J.

Don’t just place blame on POTUS. His flock of Repub sheep and want-to-be wingless Angelican-men-of-gods who swore before the world and their gods to speak truth for power, but they were powerless to speak the truth since it was not in them, saved one, for they had placed their truth in this POTUS.

  10. Don A.
