Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

My grandson is receiving SSI, he is 6 years old. I am his payee. Will he be receiving any funds. I did claim him on 2019 Tax Return. Please help. Thank you.

    • Maks B.

No Rachel, he will not. For 1- He is not an adult, not entitled to it. 2- You claimed him, so even if he was 18, no, because you claimed him

    • Robert

If you claim your grandson then your grandson will not be eligible for the $1,200 anyways check if you go on the IRS website it would tell you that before on the internet stop watching the news the internet will tell you everything under Google

I get SS and my first check came
    April 8th, 2020. I’m 62 no children.
I didn’t file taxes 2018-2019 because I didn’t make enough to file the tax man said. They took no federal taxes and I only brought home every two weeks tops $300. Dollar tree pays 7.45 hour.
So what do in order to receive my check. I’m homeless right now and was depending on this to get my own place. Please I don’t know what to do
    My name is Joann Carroll
    my cell# 470.999.1856
    My add
210 College street, Cedartown ga. 30125. This the shelter where I’m
staying. Please get back to me.
Thanks in advance for your help

Damn that is a Shame but Anyone who Recieves SSI will get a Stimulus check Beginning of Month

Joann, please don’t put your cell phone number on this blog. The whole world can see it. This blog is not monitored by anyone at Social Security. “Vonda” is like a recorded message, not a real person.

You are getting SS, which must mean you have a bank account. If you are in a homeless shelter, there must be some kind of director there. Why don’t you ask someone in charge if they know anyone you could ask. You can also call your local SS office. I think that, because you’ve just started getting SS, and so haven’t yet received a 1099, (the annual statement from SS showing how much money you got for the year), you may need to give SS more info before you will get a stimulus payment, but you need to talk to someone at SS.

Hi Joann, thank you for using our blog. New beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 should use the IRS’ Non-Filer: Enter Payment Info Here tool to receive their own $1,200 payment and $500 payment for any qualifying children. You may only enter non-Direct Express bank account information for direct deposit, or leave bank information empty to receive a paper check by mail.

I file 2018/2919 my son get ssi had date for 15 for simtules check in 3 days later it changed said it be mail out on 27 not understand

    • Vonda V.

Hi Katherine, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

My husband and I both receive social security disability

    • Bob

I haven’t received my Stimulus Check! I feel as though we should’ve been a part of the first round! I’m also being told that I would be receiving my check at the exact same time as my regular monthly benefits! Is this a true statement or, not?

    • Bob

I also read today it will be May 1st

    • Gary R.

      I don’t know

  9. Judy M.

I get $112 a month SSI. I have not gotten enough yearly income to file taxes in years. Not in years. I am worried as well. There is really no way of knowing anything until the checks are received….or not. I think we should all pray ALOT.

  10. Jack

Hate to sound ungrateful, but 1200 isn’t going to cut it for any one in the US. Shortly after we get it, it will be a case of “Now what?” I can’t keep having my stuff delivered folks. The costs are too high for my poor ass.Sorry. Either open this country up,or send more money. They should have been on top of that weeks ago… because now we are going to go months in serious need, again.

    • Ronnie R.

Being IRS is saying ssi will get our money around the beginning of may….is it likely that it will be added on to our regularly monthly payment??

    • John

      I agree with you 100%
