Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

*If your caregiver claims you as a dependent, you won’t get a stimulus check, nor will any of your children. I think that is unfair, and this should have been thought out better.

Ssi recipients should start seeing paper checks in the mail this week. I work with disabled adults and several of my clients received paper checks yesterday. Hope this helps.

They want SSI and others who don’t do taxes to have a chance to claim the $500 for their children so they are asking these people to do this from now until May 5 so that means we will get it May 6. There is plenty of information at the IRS.gov page.

Be grateful you’re getting this Stimulus at all. Every post I have read on here so far are from people on Social Security, SSDI or other types of Government assistance, yet these are the biggest complainers. My point is this, Your monthly benefits weren’t affected .in any way. So why is it some of you say your stimulus check didn’t come yet so now you have to go hungry or steal food because it didn’t come. Obviously you misused some of your benefit check because you knew you had a check coming to make up for it. t is not the IRS workers fault. I mean come on! YOU and you alone caused your own Hardship but being irresponsible and spending money you clearly didn’t have. Take it as a learning experience, admit it,. Accept thae Fact that you screwed up and get over it. :/ there’s no shame in making a mistake. The only shame is you not admitting it and placing blame elsewhere :/

OK, wow. Sounds like you’ve never had to live on $700 per month–less if you’re married. People on SSI need that money more than you do.

It doesn’t matter how well you handle your money. When you get just enough to wait to die, only because you’re too sick to work, you can only pay so many bills.

BTW, Kari, your attitude is what’s wrong with this country. I bet you think toddlers should buck up and pay their own ways in a coal mine, just like the good old days.

      “Your monthly benefits werent effected”

      Yet……

people who are working have already gotten their checks, or deposits
those of us who cant work, on disability or ssi have not received anything,
now they’re saying we wont get anything until mid may
    prices have gone up

I get SSDI I tried to use the free file on IRS.com and it let me put all my information in, but it would not let me do the E-signature. I tried and tried. I could not get the page to scroll down. What do I do. I wanted to make sure the IRS had all my current information since I have not filed for years. Can I get some help please. I live in Hampton, Virginia 23669. Please advise me. I did finally got the answer to ‘why when I go to get my money, and it kept on saying the same thing over and over’ that’s because it’s for people that file. I did find that answer. In order to get your answers you have to do a lot of reading. But getting mad is not going to help. People need to be a little more grateful for getting the Stimulus Check any way. Just consider how many people live in the United States, it’s about 450 million to a half billion. That’s a lot of people. The IRS is doing the best they can. Please be kind to one another. This is hard for every one. It not like you are being signaled out. I have read most of these post and all I hear is bitching and moaning. I had to stop reading them. It’s like people think the IRS is doing this on purpose. NOT!!

I had issues when i tried filing it out using my phone. Couldn’t get it to scroll either. Ended up using my laptop.
