Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

Most of my neighbors. Some on SSI and or SSD.Have received their stimulus checks.Within the past 24-48 hours. They also, have received their $500.00 per child.I receive SSI And Survivor’s benefits. On a direct express card.I havn’t received my stimulus payment yet.My sister whose is in a supervised apartment program.Has not received her stimulus check. No agency will give you an exact date or confirmation that your elgible.SSA states, between the end of April into May.Why many are getting theirs early. And before others is discriminatory.I don’t know if there are hold ups.If several SSA beneficiaries are receiving benefits from the same record?Or if having children gets you.Your stimulus check faster.

This is as confusing as they hoped it would be. Trying the link to IRS page which is given just runs you around the links. I am fortunate to at least have a WEB connection that costs money every month, and it is paid immediately as are all my Bills. There is little left over for Luxuries ( steak on occasion, a movie, or buying something not used.) Utilities go up faster than SS, food is going up at this very moment, and our Post Office is under attack by a man who brags he pays no Federal Taxes. The 80% of this “stimulus” is going to the Wealthiest, again, like Donald J. Trumpf’s (R) real estate holdings with Jared Kushner.

Because you have to file if you have children under age 16 to get the money for the kids you need to do it Monday

  6. Coy H.

If someone claimed you or children won’t get it if you get ssi or as or veterans

I have a 40 year old disabled daughter at home whom I have guardianship of..Just because I claim her as a dependent on my taxes this makes her exempt from any of the stimulus relief money.. I don’t think that this is fair to her and others like her who are being neglected and ignored by the treasury department.. This pandemic affects her as well as it does everyone else and I believe that it is discrimination on the part of the treasury department.. I should be allowed to receive at the very least the 500.00 for a dependent child if not the 1200.00 for her as an SSI recipient..

Life ain’t fair. Wrong place to complain about it. Until rules are changed you are SOL

    • Babe a.

      In the same boat

    People on ss or sis
Will get the money first week or second week of May don’t get your hopes up.
Don’t count your chickens before they hatched be greatful you getting extra money thank God and Trump and ss board for giving it to us

  9. Doyle,Isaac

Isaac and derrick are on ssi..and habe not received our money….please help

  10. Richard D.

My fiance who is also the mother of my kids cleaned my two children who are on SSI but didn’t get the money for them why is that is it because they’re on SSI and that makes them not eligible or will the money for them come via Direct Express Card

    • Coy H.

No because someone else claimed your kids on their taxes them on ssi under 16 years old if no one else claimed them on their taxes so no your kids won’t get the money under age 16

How dsre they gove 48 hours notice when during that same 48 hours the tool did NOT work!! People who receive SSDI and an additional check for a child had NO WAY of providing the information on Tuesday April 21 or Wednesday April 22!! I literally took screen shots on both days in an attempt to provide the information that SSA ALREADY HAS!! I forwarded these to my congressman AND THE WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE!! THIS WHOLE SITUATION SEEMS TO BE A SCAM AT THE EXPENSE OF THE POOREST AMONG US AND IT IS RIDICULOUS!! I paid into state, federal and SSA all my life and these empty promises should be noted at the tip top of our Treasury Department!! Not only have states blatantly lied to their constituents regarding sba assistance and unemployment but they have lied again and again aboutthe necessity of filing taxes and forms!! The small window with unavailable tools is unacceptable!! Its NOT free money -EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN FAMILY HAS HAD GENERATIONS OF TAX PAYER MONEY UNCLAIMED FROM SSA AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER! FAMILIES SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF THEIR OWN SSA AMOUNTS SINCE DAY 1! THEN WE COULD PROVIDE FOR OUR OWN SICK FAMILY MEMBERS WITHOUT BEGGING MISMANAGERS FOR OUR MONEY!!

    • Terri

Coy is wrong. Minor children on SSI are not eligible for the $1200 stimulus. It is for adults
