Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

I receive SSDI and have my monthly check put on my Direct Express Card every month . Do I need to do anything for my stimulas check. I did not file taxes on 2018 or 2019. Thank you

My mom gets SSI and filed 2018, got nothing back nor did she have to pay. She did not file 2019 as she no longer has to file anymore. IRS should have her banking info i would think but when you go to the site Get my Refund, it says she is qualified but needs more info like her bank info for direct deposit. I thought they had this info?…..Someone please advise.

Hi Cat, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

here we are the poorest in this country and we have to wait to be last to get any help..is this because Trump just had to have him name on the paper checks?? How childish..whatever, he’s not starving, he’s not going without and he doesn’t want for a damn thing so why should he care, I’m sure he doesn’t..

I view of the fact that the government has already taken 6 months to fix my disabled son’s benefits (still not fixed) I think a couple weeks to get a stimulus check is phenomenal. He cut through all the red tape so we could get it. No one but Trump could have done this. Many have already received and you are probably just like us and waiting. The next round of checks will be here by early May.

  6. Michael C.

I am on social security disability, I need my check badly. Can you give me any idea when I might receive my stimulas check ?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi Michael, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.
