Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: February 21, 2023
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.
By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.
I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.
Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

To Whom It May Concern,
Why is it that a collosal amount of SSDI recipients with Direct Express cards have not received their Economic Impact Payment / (Stimulus) deposit? Why are there no answers available to us? Why is it that the check my status tool on the IRS website not available for us to use as well?
Why are you all avoiding these legitimate and vital questions? In no way am I dismissing that many USA citizens are having issues as well. However the mere fact remains that at least they are able to have questions answered, a legitimate website to check on their payment, etc. It appears that these vague responses on the official SSI website is supposed to presumably calm our critical financial worries. We too have been impacted by this very unfortunate and critical pandemic. Prices have surged for so many things. The economy is even in crisis for food, and hear we are pushed to the back burner as if we are meaningless. It is very disheartening to state the least. Almost as if you all are practically considering us less than. No answer speaks volumes. You pretend you all haven’t observed and read our questions and simply skip over our worries. This is in no way stating that anyone else is less important than us. It is simply stating that you all are disregarding our concerns because of our financial titles. You’ve given the rich, wealthy, and so many others answers but refuse to have the same respect for us? WHY? There has to be someone, but I’m assuming several that can gibe a straight forward answer to our questions. Direct Express has no information to answer the questions, so why not place answers to our questions on your website out of fairness so that we as well can have access to knowledge about our payment as well. It simply is unjust and unfair. How is it that the We get paid federally. So how is it that you all can legitimately have no answers for Direct Express nor us? It simply makes no sense.
Please stop dismissing us as we are human as well. Please stop treating as less than. We may have disabilities, but we deserve the same respect as everyone else.

Its discrimination. Plain and simple.
