Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

It would be nice if the write up was more specific. Sounds like the tax is targeted for the elderly. Sounds reasonable.

Those who are not in favor of the tax cuts, you don’t have to use it or take the rest of the benefits. Problem solved.

I read your comment policy: “We do not guarantee or warrant that the information posted by anyone other than SSA on this site is correct.…”

So this means that SSA guarantees or warrants that the information it posts on the site is correct? SSA is guaranteeing that 90% of social security recipients will not pay taxes on their social security income?

Might the disinformation SSA is spreading (at taxpayer expense) cause harm and might SSA officials who are responsible be held liable for this harm? I hope so.

Why do they penalize people who have hard earned income .. it should be no no income tax on Social Security’s income regardless of your other income..people worked hard or two shifts to save for retirement..

So sad that the SSA has become a propaganda machine for the current administration. Tell the truth about what this is and HOW FEW PEOPLE WILL ACTUALLY BENEFIT FROM IT. Hint: if you are already pinching pennies to stretch your Social Security benefit, this short-term deduction will not help you!

This is blatant misinformation and inappropriate for you to send to the public. This ugly, corrupt bill will strip people of their health insurance, cut food assistance for the poor, kill off clean energy development and raise the national debt by trillions of dollars.

Concerning social security, the ugly bill provides a TEMPORARY tax deduction. Framing this email as it eliminates having to pay federal income tax is misleading, and morally repugnant.

    We deserve better.

What you can glean from this is that 90% of Social Security recipients don’t get much of a benefit. Another thing is that these bonus deductions don’t only apply to SS recipients. A person over 65 who doesn’t get SS will get the same deduction. It really is a misleading tactic.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with Social Security. It provides a TEMPORARY tax deduction of $6,000 ($12,000 for couples) for ANYONE over 65 who meets income requirements. A Social Sscurity recipient who is 64 WOULD NOT BE ELIGIBLE. Stop lying for POTUS – he does not need more sycophants.

I guess you missed the part where they’ve removed taxes from SS payments for most beneficiaries. The tax deduction was noted as something additional the bill did related to people 65 and over, who are likely receiving social security and who probably want to know when they read this announcement. Read more closely and catch a clue.

You are right. It is for anyone 65 and older who meets the income requirements. You do not need to be receiving Social Security to be eligible. You are also right that any tax structure is temporary because it seems to change with each administration. However, as a person over 65, I am happy to be able to keep more of my hard-earned income. I don’t care which administration proposed it.

I have been listening closely and see no real benefits for seniors. I was disappointed. On that part. I do agree, however, with much of the bill.no tax on tips is a biggie. All because a waitress said what a good idea that was. Apparantly, President Trump DOES listen!

Sorry Melvin but if you read the article it says recipients over 65 it doesn’t say anything about 64 and hum how did you get social security at 64, could it be that you’re not actually getting social security but you’re getting SSI which is different I went to 67. And I really don’t understand why people keep bashing president Trump for helping the American public.

It is all about SS. The President always said it was for 65 and above. And there is no tax on SS for a single with $25,000 SS income and $48,000 for a couple, after that it’s taxed at a lower level then before.

Are you serious? So, because your TDS told you to focus on the negative, and not report the whole story, just like CNN, MSDNC and the other MSM, and the people who CHOSE early retirement, the fact that everyone over 65 just got 6000.00, or 12,000.00 just disappears? What is your goal for getting up on your soapbox here? Um, you’re not going to flip any of the vast majority of American voters, who voted for policies just like this. We don’t vote based on propaganda and knee jerk, indoctrinated emotion, that’s you guys, the obvious sycophants, who refused to believe their own eyes, and admit their guy clearly had dementia, the Emperor’s New Clothes to the letter. We voted for a real president, based on policy. He gets things done. You guys just keep doubling and tripling down on the exact non- thinking mindset, that got you beat by a landslide. But by all means, keep assuming your low information opinion, is why we do things, keep going… we love it.

President Trump could cure cancer and you would have something negative to say about it. For God’s sake, give the man a break. At least he is trying to help the citizens out, something no other politician on then national stage has done is a very, very long time.

This is a bogus notification (a very limited “deduction”, which expires in 2028) intended for PR only while cutting Medicaid & giving huge permanent tax breaks to the rich. Most seniors won’t qualify for this.

@Dustin-Donald Dump and republicans are screwing US Americans, especially those on SSA, with their nonsense. The traitor Donald Dump and republicans who supported him in his Jan 6 coup attempt belong in jail. The bill passed on 03 Jul 25 by republican Donald Dump bootlickers and signed the traitor Donald Dump is bad for all but the very rich.

Biden and his traitors gave billions of dollars to illegals and criminals around the world to the tune of $22,000 a month per illegal criminal aliens while offering Americans $700 total for disaster relief. If you want to support criminals use your personal bank account, not tax payers money!

You may be surprised when you file your taxes. This bill only gives seniors a $6,000 deduction – and then there is a income limit. In addition to that, the $6,000 deduction will expire in two years. This bill does NOT eliminate federal taxes on your social security. It MAY reduce the taxes owed for some. In addition, many lower income seniors don’t pay taxes already as their income is low. Shame on the SSA for putting information on their website without a more detailed explanation of what exactly was passed in that bill. That helps no one.

That’s what Trump wants you to think, Dustin. Smarten up and read up: this is a temporary tax deduction for singles and couples who meets the requirements. The SSA is nonpartisan. It would never distribute a sham communication like this.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the president of the United States could tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth? The president’s claim that the big beautiful bill that just passed Congress provides for no taxes on Social Security. That is a false claim. It provides for a temporary deduction for qualified individuals to reduce the amount of their taxes on Social Security. So this is not for everybody. You must be at least 65 years old to qualify for this temporary deduction. And my guess is there is a maximum amount of earned money that could disqualify you from the reduced taxes. So in short this text deduction which is temporary will help only a few of the Social Security recipients. Let’s not get ourselves the vast majority of this bill gives huge I mean huge tax breaks for the most wealthiest in our country since Ronald Reagan. It has trillions of dollars to our national debt that our children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Beyond will have to repay. So let’s don’t be too quick to Pat Donald Trump on the back he’s enriching himself and his children make no mistake about it.
