Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

The SSA should not be “celebrating” anything! I expect straightforward facts from the SSA, not political party propaganda. I got this blog post as an email and I am outraged. This type of a mailing should be paid for from a political campaign fund, not with public funds.

Everything that President Donald Trump has done so far, is part of what he promised! You have to remember that he can only do so much due to the massive opposition from the ignorant Trump haters! He is without a doubt the best president this country has ever had, and probably ever will have! If all the ignorant haters would give him a chance, everyone would benefit! Unfortunately, there are way too many that are so blind that they can’t see the forest for the woods! GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP!

The bill does provide an enhanced tax deduction for senior citizens ages 65 and older, which provides a maximum additional tax deduction of $6,000 through 2028 that’s calculated based on the taxpayer’s income.

In actuality, the bill does not make any direct changes to taxing of Social Security benefits, as senators are not allowed to make changes to Social Security through the reconciliation process, which was used to pass the spending bill and allows budget-focused policies to pass with only a simple majority of votes.

changes to Social Security benefits must get 60 votes in the Senate.

So if the democrats would work with republicans and be able to get 60 votes.

If democrats gave it 60 votes it could have been a better bill to stop taxing social security benefits.

Can you direct me to the specific provision in the new bill that says we will receive tax relief for Social Security Income? 900+ pages is a lot to wade through.

The funding for payment of social security benefits to retirees, survivors and disabled comes from the social security taxes that are paid by workers. That is why we need more employed persons that will pay the SS tax

It so confusing for many educated individuals to understand. A matrix should be exact within total income limits other than social security. Like 401 retirements ,, outside investment,, property’s income,, stocks and bonds investments. Why is this not mentioned. ?? Make reading more clear and use language all can understand. Should not need a lawyer or CPA to interpret meaning. That’s what sting leadership insists.

I am a tax professional, and I found that the information you provided was misleading to U.S. taxpayers.
